The T97 Thread!

Here we go. Gives it a lot better hold on the handle.

What are your thoughts on the butt pad upgrade? I kind of like the short length of pull, does the upgrade change the feel much?

Changes it a bit. I didn't do my second one yet. Not as noticeable when prone.
I'm not confident in hanging a sling from it just screwed to plastic.

Also had a couple failures at the range today... nothing with the actual rifle. It ran great.

BC tactical reciprocating charging handle worked itself loose and it bent a bit. 3D printed handle broke in half. I drilled out the second one so the bolts don't dig into it.

How hard is removing the flash hider on these? And what is the thread pitch?

I've removed a few myself, one was impossible (first batch) TSE gunsmith got it off.
The other one came off with a few punch strokes, my gen 2 I had to surface drill both ends of the hole a little and the punch method and voila, it came off!

Barrel end has no threading at all, diameter is 14mm.

Damn Shawn, your T97's look really nice. Probably will give some Tavors a run for their money. :)

While it remains functional it is an interesting option, however I wouldnt trust the Gen 1's because of their poor feed ramps, besides the fact that the trigger still remains non-upgradeable mush, there is no parts support, and the ergos still suck (mag release). If they just included a thumb safety from factory, and used rock and lock mags to overcome the half assed attempt to use stanag mags/mag release this rifle would have been the unbeatable value bullpup rifle.

Which brings ne to my next point. I also find it hilarious that anyone would put that much money into a T97. If you do it all from new, you would be far better off saving the same total amount and spending it on a new RDB, or a used Tar21, or add a little and get a new Tar21 or used x95.

I've owned 4x T97's gen1 and 2 so far and I say Amen to that..(your above comment).

Notice I specified if you do it all from new. I bought a new T97 when they first came out for $1200, and if I stayed the course and bought all upgrdes new I would have ran past $2k pretty quick.

My second foray into the T97 was someones already upgraded T97FTU/LHG unit for $1000.

My 3rd one was a NSR-A (gen 2) for $850 that I intend to improve with the help of my machinist buddy.

That said, best deal I ever got on a Tar21 was $1600 in like new condition.

Best deal I got on an x95 was a BNIB from the retailer for $2370 tax in last spring when they launched.

Hard to say those prices aren't competing/beating pretty strongly a T97 being done up from new or your build prices. Now if you can find someone taking a strong hit on the build like I did, then you got a decent firearm at an economical price point.

That said, with new RDB's at $1500, used ones will quickly show up at $1200 or less, and suddenly the T97 has no place to be.

The $1620 I bought all myself.
The $1320 I got a sick deal on a FTU one.

All this being said both my gen 1's have zero feed ramp issues. Combined ~4500 rounds with no problem.

If the only issue left is the mag change ergonomics.. I'm 100% satisfied.

I don't think the RDB is going to change much. Some gen 2 T97 are sub $1000 new now.

Just Got mine! Yes x 2. Love it already compared to my gen 1

This to me is much more appealing aesthetically than either an Tavor or RDB. Not that looks are all that counts. With the changes to the Gen 2 version, I think they are priced well at 1000.

Just bought one BNIB for 950 shipped. Add 400 to that and it’s still under the cost of a new RDB.

These upgrades look great, form and function.
In this configuration if the mag compatibility issue is also resolved by touching up the mag well, I would say it is indeed a trusty plinker.
