The T97 Thread!

Just wanted to let everyone know, there is an easier way to reload mags on the gen 2/3. This involves hitting the left side mag release with a fresh mag and inserting it, slightly faster and reminiscent of an AK-style reload (or original QBZ). Not my original idea but thought it’d be cool to share.

Is the following link on Reddit you (CGN member 2008reedges) demonstrating the technique? - https://www.reddit.com/r/canadaguns/comments/n4dg75/type_97_lpt_personal_thoughts/

The ambidextrous mag release is a big plus on the gen2/3 versus the original gen1; that said, training to reload using the right hand is not a huge deal.

Hi everyone, happy to find this place for T97! I am sure I will find a lot of useful information about this rifle, just wanted to thanks in advance for every posters first.

on the Gen 1, if you're adjusting the magwell to fit other STANAG mags, then from my experience it's the back spline that needs to be widened. File that channel wider and perhaps deeper, and you should get to the next "bottleneck" if there is one. I used a needle file set like this https://www.princessauto.com/en/10-pc-needle-file-set/product/PA0008787061
This is exactly what I had to do with my gen 2 2 years ago, and just happened to use the exact same file set lol.

The gen3 seems to have resolved this issue

Hi guys, sorry if this question has already been answered but does anyone know if the Lancer L5 or Magpul PMAG Gen 3 fit into (and drop free) a Gen 3? I saw the Blackbear Outdoors video on magazine compatibility and I wondered if anyone else can confirm that they work well.

I currently just run cross mags in mine which have been great but I wanted to see the other options too.

Worst case scenario, just take a very small amount off the spine of the mag.

Hey everyone.. took one of them out to the range again today.

I had the same issue as I have been trying to resolve for the past couple years.. after only ~250 rounds it’s unbearably hot.

Short of bulky gloves is there any option to resolve this, even a bit?

I’ve tried a few things before without luck.

Thinking of dipping the lower in a rubbery compound..

Well, it's touching the barrel near the gas block and chamber. And aluminum isn't known for heat reflecting properties. I doubt there is anything you can do about that.

That’s why I was thinking of a rubberized coating where I’m gripping. Itl be hot, just won’t conduct to my hand as much.
I tried header tape around the barrel, made no noticeable difference.

get some aluminum or steel stock and make a new one. I replaced mine with hot blued metal and its much nicer. Its a quick job and takes maybe ten minutes.

Replace what?

I got an idea...

I have 3 t97.ca pic rails. If I put one on the LHG and 2 on the upper, then modify a rail cover to clip over the whole front, I could grab onto that...

Might be a little ugly but should be functional.

Guys..sorry if this was covered, but don't feel like reading 300 pages and can't find this info anywhere:
My T97 spells NSR-A on the reciever.
The upper row of the handguard is MLOC, the bottom riw is Key mod.
Is mine the second gen, or the third?
And are there any notable differences between the two?

It's second gen. The top row is not M-LOK, it's just air flow ports.
