Range report
I took mine shooting today, btw.
The first thing I noticed was that I didn't need to look for my ATT ... off I went with my non restricted rifle. Ah, joy ...
The rifle is very good for shooting DT's at ranges under 50 yards. There is some muzzle flip but the bullpup design allows the shooter to very easily keep the muzzle on target and maintain controllability. The rifle was very pleasant to shoot rapid strings with.
The furthest distance I shot was 100 yards, and my best 5 shot group was about 2.5". This was with AE 55 grain ammo ... the Remington UMC pretty well sucked for me as it always does, although it seemed ok in the 20-40 yard DT exercises. I know this isn't 'marksman grade shooting' by any means, but then again I have a lot left to learn in that field, so I'm not blaming the rifle.
All in all, the rifle functioned well, with no hiccups. The Mepro was used under difficult conditions as I shot from shade into bright sunlight. The dot was still visible at 100 yards but more faded than I would have liked. This is offset by the fact that the system requires no batteries and it's a relative rarity to get sunny conditions on a shooting day here on the coast! Match days are even worse in this regard so I suppose competitive shooters have no worries.
The magazines were pinned a little tight and refused to seat on a closed bolt. I'll give Chris a call and let him know so he can adjust his jig slightly. Most of us have a supply of mags already, so the nice steel "Tavor" marked mags can stay in original condition for the time being.
