The TAVOR

I hope our boy doesn't mind me posting these pics but here are some "Real" Tavor pics. BCRA Provincial Champs 2008 Vokes range Chilliwack.

I had a hell of a time too but figured it or so I hope. I guess I will find out for sure when I hit the range tomorrow.

There are no shortcuts installing the firing pin. The recoil spring and rod must be removed first - no big deal after that.

As for the amonia odour, tape a small battery operated fan to the buttstock pointed forward - that should fix it - oh and no, I haven't done that yet.

Its a great rifle to shoot - I love it. Its no tack driver, but its great for plinking at 100yds. The trigger weight is fairly heavy, but nowhere near that of a Beretta Storm.

Why don't you just buy the regular tavor and get the Mars sight later. It doesn't make sense to buy the restricted version when you can have a non restricted. but hey to each there own I guess.

Swapping a short barrel to a non-restricted receiver needs to be done by a person with manufacturing licence - it will be re-verified , yada yada. You cannot just shove the barrel on your own and declare it non-restricted. it is a PITA!

I really dont have the money to rebuild this thing over a few times and bleed another thousand dollars to "gradually" build it to the way I want.

Canam, is it really that much of a PIA to change barrels?? Can the MARS be mated with the restricted barrel, and say a rail on the non-restricted one? would it be easier to swap out barrel/sight combos?

Can the firing pin be put in wrong? I put it in and everything seems to go back together ok. The firing pin flange moves back and forth between two stops. Is that correct?

I shot my buddys on the weekend what a fun gun to shoot. The only thing I didn't like was the gas port location. We were shooting Winchester ammo the smell of amonia was so strong.Buddy says the it's better with american eagle. So I give it a 9 out of 10.

Interesting...I get a strong whiff of gas from time to time with my Norc 97 too... anyone else notice this with the Tavor?

Also what's the Overall length of that bad boy?

Anyone know if you put a 3x day telescope behind the meprolight 21 if the dot gets bigger with the magnification or does its stay the same size. Just want to know because I am thinking of either getting the telescope for behind the mepro or saying screw it and puting a real scope on the thing. The dot on the mepro is just too big to use on targets 50 yards and beyond.

I don't understand. I the only place you would be swapping to the short barrel would be at the range. It (apparently) only takes a few minutes. The barrels can be swapped by the end user/operator you don't need to be an armourer.

What do you mean?

He means that in order to legally put a part on a non-restricted firearm that makes it restricted it needs to be done by an armorer and the CFC must then be contacted to change the classification of that firearm from non-restricted to restricted, which will require the firearm to be verified by a verifier that's approved by the CFC.

It's not a technical limitation, it's a legal one.

that's only if u keep it on there for more than 30 days

I am not sure where this comes from - but my understanding is that the 30-days grace period only applies to changes that do not affect the status of the particular firearm. This particular issue was investigated by Wolverines in regard to the carbine retro kit for the M96. There is no such thing as "dual class" receiver.

The principle of such a barrel swap is no different than putting a FA trigger pack into a receiver at the range and take it off when it is done. It fundamentally changes the classification of the receiver - even temporarily.

If there is an offical CFC/RCMP affirmation of the legality of such activity, I would like to be proven wrong.
