The TAVOR

Trigger pull is a little heavy but the XCR without that match trigger leaves alot to be desired. The ergos are good for a bullpup but not in the same league as the XCR. I got rid of the Mepro and put on an Elcan Specter DR cause the mepro I find is only good to 25-50 yards cause of the large dot size.

The MEPRO is garbage, I hate it. Can't shoot from low light to bright, dot washes out very easily because you can't manually set the brightness.

Other than that, it's great. It takes a bit getting used to, but the ergos are good!

I agree with 'the Mepro sucks' guys. Big dot, washes out easily.

I sold my Tavor after one range trip, just wasn't a good fit for me.

It's great to hear that bolts will be on their way... Quick question to Chris, if parts are to be ordered from IWI (BUIS free gas tubes - little bits and pieces), what would the approximate turnaround time be (ballpark). I always like to keep a few spare parts in the toolbox just in case ;-)

Yeah I really do. It is for sure my dream rifle. I've owned 2 bull-pups and I think the Tavor would really fit my needs for self defense. I've contacted everyone imagineable including the Nazi's ATF with no luck what so ever.
And who says dreams do come true?

Summary and questions

Greetings, great site! I just got here.

I have a Tavor on order, I read through this thread, and I got this:
  • the Mepro sight is crap
  • there a 2 rails: one from 999 through CanAM, one from dlask. The dlask is a bit lower than the 999. Might need a riser to clear the flip up sight.
  • Some replace the Mepro with ACOG,, Aimpoint, hollow sights
Questions:
  • any point for or against one rail or the other?
  • has anyone removed the read flip-up sight? Can it be removed or must it be sawed off?
  • I would like to have some magnification on my sight, so ACOG would be my preference. But it's damn expensive! How about a "regular" scope in 1-5 x 20 mm (or something similar)?

Thanks! Nic.

I got my rail from 999 because he sells the barrel wrench as part of the package (I am too lazy to modify an allen key).
I kept my flip-up sight. Just in case, I will need it for the future. When all else fail, it is always nice to have a backup.
I am ordering a Nightforce 2.5-10X compact scope with a Burris FastFire 2 for closer distance. Keep you eye on the exchange - I was looking at a Leupold 1-4X. ACOG is very nice but I think it is fixed power. Try to find the sight that you are interested and look through it - it is the only way to tell.

I sold my Tavor because the mepro sucked and no rail was available at the time and i had no tools to take it off . My mepro was defective as well , with the recoil the dot would come on and off . But im thinking of getting another one if i can get it without the mepro . I was thinking of putting either my NF 1-4X or maybe getting a spectre DR .
