The TC encore pro

I tried one, I had a few barrels, I really disliked it, too much muzzle jump, felt awkward, Smith and Wesson the parent company is having problems getting parts to Canada, I ordered an extractor that they had in stock stateside in April cancelled it last week and sold the barrel at a loss. Lots of guys like them I think Prairie Gun traders and Prophet river has them. I think they are overpriced I had better success with a Handi rifle,

Hey Adrian....

Are you talking about a Prohunter??

If so, I have one and love it.

50 cal ML barrel and turkey barrel. Had a bunch of rifle barrels and a 12 gauge slug barrel I sold.

My buddy has one in .270 and .300 win mag. Its not my cup of tea based on looks and being a single shot but I will say it was extremely comfortable to shoulder and shoot. The .270 felt like shooting a .243. Recoil was definitely reduced.

I think these guns are overpriced and not worth they investment. They muzzleloaders are like 900 used and barrels and firearms are like 450. Heck for that money you can a muzzleloader and a bolt action rifle and have money left order for a scope. Plus they rifles are single shot. Had a cva apex which is similar and traded it off. They single shot concept wears off quick. 900 for a ml is nuts.

I have one with a .308 barrel and a aftermarket smokeless ML barrel. I like the gun it just feels great in my hands and I shoot it well. Muzzle jump is non existent I don't know what Hugh was shooting.
Here is a vid of a camera attached to mine shooting a deer last fall watch how far the muzzle jumps. This is a 168g TTSX @2780 FPS.

Have a TC Encore 50cal muzzleloader in walnut, absolutely love it as a muzzleloader. As stated, very comfortable in hand, comes up to shoulder naturally - love it, very accurate muzzleloader, come with quality iron/fibre sights, I am happy with the trigger as well. Great gun with or without a scope, love it.

You can pick up a used Encore at a good price if you take your time, I have no experience with the ProHunter but it appears very much the same.

I did not buy this gun to switch barrels, mine is a dedicated smokepole, no interest in it as a single shot rifle. The best muzzy made in my opinion.

Hugh was shooting 300wm, 7mm mag, 375HH, I have or have had these calibers in bolt action rifles, have never been as aware of a scope coming at my eye or muzzle jump as with the TC, I tried a thumbhole stock and it was better but still not comfortable, I also had a 25 06 barrel, recoil and muzzle jump was not a factor however the faulty extractor was, I do like single shots.

I had a couple of receivers and about a dozen assorted barrels for several years, everything from .222 to .375 plus muzzleloader and 12-gauge slug barrel. They all shot well, some extremely well, and never had any functional problems. Recoil wasn't an issue. Sold them all during my last "gun purge" a couple of years ago, for two reasons:

First, they handle like a broomhandle bolted to a 2x4. They fit okay once I had them shouldered, but just didn't carry or swing well.

Second, an entirely personal preference: they just didn't turn my crank. I am a single shot fan, but when you sit on a stand, look down at your gun and say "Wow...that is ugly!" it's time to let it go and move on to something that doesn't hurt your eyes.:)

I own two. One dedicated to rifle barrels and the other to ML. Both shoot well and in my opinion fit and handle equally as well. As with any rifle everyone will have their own opinion so I would suggest you try to get your hands on one and see for yourself. I have to agree that they are pricey but I picked up a used one on the EE for less then $700 in .308 and it was in excellent shape. I also handload and find I get excellent velocities ( and accuracy) out of mine.

I do own far better looking rifles but to me a hunting rifle is a tool and my Prohunters do their job just fine.

I have one in 30/06, black synth/stainless, as my dedicated moose gun. I made some modification as suggested by Mike Bellm (ttp://www.bellmtcs.com); heavier hammer spring, DIY trigger job. I had the barrel shortened to 23" and re-crowned. It makes it just shy of 38" overall. I find it quick handling and fits nice into the scabbard of my Eberlestock pack.

I had a .223 barrel for it as well but sold it. Changing barrels is not something I would call a "quick" job.

I guess one of the issues is that the forestock is screwed right into the barrel. So, depending on how much you torgue the screws it can change the POI. I put some small stainless steel washers on the screws between the barrel and where it contacts the forestock just to off set it slightly so the whole barrel isn't contacting the stock.

I'm not in love with it but I do like the simplicity of the single shot.
I will sell it one day when the mood strikes me. Not because I don't like it but just to try something different...
