At least 10 times I have been within 100yrds of mountain goats looking down at them.

Hmmm....I've never heard anyone describe the taste of bighorn as tasting like domestic sheep..........

Wow, that many full curl encounters......that is impressive. I spend a lot of days hunting sheep and have only seen a handful of full curl bighorn rams. I must be hunting the wrong areas. How big were the ones you shot?

It didn't taste like mutten (mutton) ...

The sheep I had that I was comparing it to was actually prepared by a 4 diamond chef, and it was big horn. I found that it had a very distinct taste.

It was prepared with liver, sausage, and I want to say back bacon but I may be wrong, ...

The sheep we had ourselves, had that same taste, but much much more pronounced. Both were Trophy's, but not anything that amazed the local guys in the know... I shot one and my buddy Jody shot the other. 300 WSM Savage and mine was with a .35 remington




By your pics, I doubt you hunt wrong areas, ... I just have a couple of good spots, and used to have a connection as far as mountain travel goes..

I've hunted areas that Full Curl was all that's permitted, but never ever saw one there, went back the following summer to do some fishing and saw 2, both within range, not at all bothered with me and made their way up at a snails pace, looking back now and then. To add to the story, less than 1 mile from where I saw them, a wedding was taking place. In the middle of almost no where, practically on the side of a moutain, I spied a golf cart type quad, the ones that people sit side by side in, crossing a river with the Bride in full wedding dress, then 5 more with groom and brides maids, etc etc etc.
There was a cabin back on a trail and this is where they were getting married,... I thought I was on candid camera as I fried a couple of cutthroats on the fire and heard "I knew the bride when she used to Rock and Roll" echoing down the valley.

Mom and Dad are coming out for Xmas and I told them to look for my pics and bring them with them,... I don't have a scanner but there's one at work and i'll put up a few really awesome hunting pics that would be right up your alley.

I have no doubt that you have heard rams butting,... I have one pic of two rams about .5 inch before they hit, one on his hind legs, coming down, the other on all 4's springing up.

I hike all 4 seasons and for a little while did some amteur climbing, ... I have some great pics of that as well,... to look at them now, I could vomit at the heights and ledges.
 
OK, OK but the number one burning question is: When you saw the 2 headed sheep was your scope;
A) on your rifle
B) in your pack
c) fumbled on the ground at your feet.
D) none of the above I hadn't experimented with alternate "smoking materials" at this stage yet. JK!

All I remember is that i stopped for lunch, ate my sandwhich, boiled the kettle, oh yeah, I ate some real tatsy wild mushrooms, had a granola bar and then the two headed sheep appeared.

Though I never mentioned this before, the sheep spoke to me.
He told his name was FGerald (with a silent F) and the other head was Cecil

Then the clouds all parted and I saw Jim Morrison and Brian Jones atop the mountain and their heads morphed and they mounted a a white unicorn and and played accordions with their tongues....

I took picture of that too, but didn't upload them. They're pretty cool.
 
All great rams and great pictures. What is the story with the broomed ram in the snow? Curious how long ago it was taken, age, score, etc... Was it killed in a general area or on a draw? Alberta? Sure is a great ram!

Omega took it two years ago during the late-season 438 hunt........think he was 13.....never put a tape on him....not sure if Omega did or not.
 
Yup, haunted the Willmore lots myself...that's where my buddy Paul took his ram from last year.......big country with not a lot of access definitely makes it one of the best sheep areas in Alberta. Seen loads of legal rams in there but never a full curl.......:( Sure they are there though.

356,357,358 and where 356 heads into 445 is some excellent Elk hunting and wolf areas, as well as whitetail, mule and Moose.

I also did a fair bit of fishing in these areas as well.

Being a sal####er guy, I wasn't up on all the fishing stuff out here nor the species. Back home I only fished sal####er and in Fresh water only for Brookies, speckle, mud and salmon. I had no clue about how to catch graylings or pickerals or bass or jackfish or whitefish or pike....

I still don't know much about it, but have caught a lot of fish and still only use a worm and a lucky strike spinner. I was amazed to see guys using egg sacs and stuff. Once though, a friend had a bottle of pink marshallows and gave it to me to try. I felt stupid using it, but caught a limit of rainbows within 2 hours. More luck, than the marshmallows I think.

All in all I really just enjoy that area of the country and being out in it. I'm not ineterested in getting the biggest fish or investing a few thousand in equipment to get the biggest fish. I'm not interested in the biggest animal either,... when I do get a big one though, fish or animal, it is certainly nice.

I don't hunt sheep anymore, though I may again,... I would not pass on a Trophy sheep simply because the day before I saw a full curl in the same area and might see him again. Perhaps I'm too easily satisfied,...or because i come from back east, even the smallest sheep and elk etc etc have me in awe, and many animals later they sttill do..
