umm...clearly, the point was lost on you

sampson23: Hyundai is Korean, not Chinese.

So… your point was that China still makes junk? Or do you have an example that is of the right country? As comparing Canada, Japan, and South Korea, far different countries, to China really means nothing… last I heard China was a communist country and was putting lead in children’s toys.

I think the point was that manufacturing can improve greatly over time. Sure, China makes some junk, but they also make some decent stuff too.

So excited!! I've been in the fence on buying a Tavor. I preordered the 97 to see if I like the bullpup design. If Jan happy with it after firing 1000ish rounds I'll consider the Tavor at $2700+. By the looks of it, the carry handle and front sight are 1 piece, so maybe a flat top upper will be offered by the aftermarket.

Keep in mind this is like comparing an AR15 to the MR1 to see if you like black rifles. The Norc ergonomics are nowhere near as good as the Tavor. Like the MR1 the control placement on the Norc isn't very good. The Tavor provides a bullpup with AR like ergos. Like the MR1 optic mounting isn't very good with the Norc. The Tavor again is like an AR.

The Norc will be a fun plinker. Yes I ordered one. I was even on the previous presale order a few years ago. I'm expecting a fun to shoot decent quality non restricted bullpup plinker. Comparing the Nor to the Tavor to decide if you like bullpups isn't such a good idea since the Norc has a lot of the traditional bullpup flaws that the Tavor doesn't.

Should be fun but keep the expectations realistic.

t97 will probably be the best bullpup ever made. I watched videos last night of the PLA army guys doing all kinds of kung-fu crouchy shooting and that what im gonna do with mine. that or spetnaz style summersault crouchy shooting.

You'll probably be waiting a while then...

I don't mind. I'm not a huge fan of bullpups, just my personal taste, so waiting for one won't bother me.

As for the prices of these driving down those of other bullpups, I doubt it. There's not much room for flexibility on prices when it comes to guns...

Really? Look at what has happened to AR-15 prices in the past year. I'm not saying that we will all be buying Tavors for $1.5k this time next year, I'm just saying that there may be some adjustment in the market in a good way for those who like bullpup and/or NR black rifles.

I put my order in sometime this morning. Second time around should ensure they dont get taken away! Learned from previous mistakes lol.
Im new at this bullpup stuff but arent bullpup style rifles prohibited in canada?

I put my order last night. Only $1000' what can you complain, man?
As I usually say as long as it is a combat proven it should not be too bad.
For those who hate Norinco, just don't buy it and please stopping pissing on it.

Companies were able to import less expensive AR's from the U.S. or were able to do so more economically. This had more to do with the U.S. DOS easing up a little on export procedures. What we did not see is the exact same item fall in price. The only exception to this were things like the Tavor or CSA rifles where the importer changed, and the new one (North Sylva) had greater buying power, so was able to import them more economically. What became available within the last year that would cause AR prices to fall? There is also the fact that there are dozens of manufacturers of AR's, some of them making over a dozen different models, then compare that to the manufacturers of bullpup rifles, where each pattern of rifle is manufactured by one company, and they'll maybe have one or two different models. Completely different market, and you don't have the same sort of competition with the bullpup rifles as you do with AR's because the bullpup rifles are still protected by patents.

You also have to keep in mind that all of the other bullpups are 2x or 3x the price of the Norinco. Generally, the norc becoming available wouldn't significantly cut in to the market where the Tavor would be. If you're willing to spend almost $3k on a Tavor, 99% of the time you'll go for the Tavor over the norc. If anything, the Norc will give greater competition to rifles like the Benelli MR1 and CSA VZ-58.

I see two pictures of the type 97's between can am and sfrc... one looks like it has a shorter butt-stock... or does it adjust a bit? anyone know

I'd actually take an MR-1 over the T97. I think you'll like the MR1 better as a coyote gun Oldexpat!

(offtopic: does the MR1 take polymer mags just fine?)

AFAIK it's a no-go with PMags.

They're likely just stock photos pulled off the internet. We'll have to wait until dealers actually get them before the exact configuration is known.

My MR1 works fine with the one pmag I have. The XCR 10 round mags on the other hand are a pain in the ass.

Any specs out on OAL and weight on the new type 97?

for those who never been to china or lived in china... listen...
chinese do make good :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: when goverment is involved...
