The Type 97 is back . . .

I'd rather be on a pre-order list, without spending a dime to do so, for a new rifle that may (or may not) hit my hands in May...

...than hold off waiting for a FRT and miss the boat completely when it's approved.

Getting in line with a chance of disappointment costs nothing. Waiting for, and expecting, rejection only to see the rifle approved also costs nothing but ensures you'll be waiting even longer for a gun.

That was my thinking as well. I wasn't interested in putting $250 down for a more local pre order. As it turns out the one I pre ordered had $0 shipping and didn't require a deposit. It's a no lose proposition for me so what the heck.

Not to pour water on this, but seeing how long it took the RCMP to determine that the initial Type 97 were evil baby killers and should be prohibited, I wouldn't count on getting delivery when NSR gets delivery.

Yeah, funny how that little detail was overlooked in the announcement yesterday.

The Long Awaited Type 97 civilian model is officially approved for April Delivery 2013!!!! The Type 97 with an already approved FRT number and classified as NON-Restricted will arrive early in 2013!

Here's hoping you all get them by April. Until then, I'll just have to make due with my Tavor...

The second one down looks the best, no need to change where the charging handle is, that is a significant mod. You would have to remove the front sight of course since it would become useless. If these get into Canada I bet we will see a plethera of aftermarket rails etc within a couple years. It would be a decent sized market.

And IMHO you're the exception to the rule. The norc looks like it's a great rifle, and it's definitely more affordable than the Tavor, but it is a much older design, and the Tavor offers several improvements over the T97. One of the biggies is the factory picatinny rail. This makes it much easier to mount optics. On the T97, you need an adapter and it pushes the sight up higher, compromising your cheek weld. There are other ergonomic enhancements that the Tavor has over the T97 too, but I digress.

It's kinda like comparing a CSA and a Swiss Arms. The CSA is much more affordable, and you see many more out there. The Swiss Arms is more expensive, but a much more modern design, and has better ergonomics/features. I've owned both, and now I own 2 Swiss Arms and 0 CSA's/VZ58's. I'd hardly say the .223 CSA's coming on to the market had a significant impact on Swiss Arms sales. Different target audience IMO.
I agree that the Tavor has an overall general better design, but both rifles originate from the same decade, and the Tavor seems to predate the QBZ-95 (according to the Wiki Pages.

Hahahaha oh god, my sides!

109 meters/w zeiss optic apparently... If this is actually true, I like what I am seeing...

Personally, I like number one the best. After looking at it for a while, it doesn't seem like it would be that difficult to do - the charging handle is still roughly in the same spot.

edit: sorry about the double post :(

This was Dr. Lector's shooting. I tried to find this post, but it was beyond my search function range. Could you post in it to bring it back from the dead so we can all see it.

done. his post is on page one if you have 50 posts per page.

That first design is neat, but if they just left the charging handle the way it is, and had the rails simply wrap around the outside of the handguard, I think that would be the best way to go about it.

I'm not sure if its been covered previously, but does the NSR version incorporate the QBZ-95-1 enhancements?

Also, what is the barrel twist rate and is it chrome lined?
