The Type 97 is back . . .

Ya, right.

In this gun staved market an importers perceived lack of responce will make no differance with any new "black/red" type rifle.

I disagree. The black rifle market is hot, but small. It would take exactally one competitor to step up to the plate and take a sizeable chunk of market share from NS. This can happen with a simple faux-pas like not being honest and forthright with your client base.

With the crazy lot here on CGN I think it is wise for NS to say absolutely nothing until we have something concrete.

Otherwise people will compain or get angry for no legitimate reason.

Maybe its just me, but I don't really think that its crazy to ask to be kept in the loop on a thousand dollar purchase. If there is problems, thats fine. Complications happen. It would just be nice to know whats going on when they stated they'd have FRT by January and we still don't know today.

NS said they are expecting the FRT to be approved soon...and they think they hit pay dirt with the NEW T-97 design. To ME that means that in order for a FRT to be "hopefully approved soon" means that both the gun design is complete and a sample has been given for said approval. How can something be happening soon if the RCMP doesn't have a gun to approve let alone if the design has not even yet been complete?!

All of these "facts" that Joe Chatroom are giving us mean nothing, all coming from a friend of a friend of a friend? My friends friend says the SKS is a great sniper weapon and able to get head shots at distances up to 800yards.

Has anyone thought that maybe the RCMP doesn't have to or want to give information on FRT numbers until its done and approved? Maybe they are sick of people calling and questioning them/it all the time.

Now these are some wise wordsThk

You seem to be a little too interested in somebody else's business.

The legal classification of firearms in Canada, including the Type 97 carbine, is my business. It has formed part of my law practice over the past several years.

Many of the importers, distributors, retailers and advocacy groups you are familiar with are people who I've either worked for - or worked with - over the years, trying to bring new products to the Canadian market for guys like yourself - and trying to keep other products available for you guys to keep buying. Where do you think I get all my information from? Do you seriously think I make this stuff up because I have some sort of vendetta against North Sylva or the T97?

Industry guys phone me up or e-mail and tell me what they know. A lot of it - on this T97 issue - has been in response to the posts I've put up since December. One of the sponsors of this forum looked up all the FRT's for T97's for me and e-mailed them all to me. It turns out he missed one (the "T97NS prototype") so another business owner e-mailed me a copy of the FRT for that one, on his own initiative based on what I had posted, a few days later. A third business owner is the one that, again on his own initiative, tipped me off that no new prototype has been received by the RCMP lab since the T97NS. I reported all of this to you guys on CGN, because I think people have a right to know. Of course it has to be annonymous though. NS is a big player in a small industry. Nobody wants to be seen as stepping on their toes, but I'm obviously not the only one who recognizes that the gun buying public has been misled (unintentionally I think, but misled nontheless) into believing that non-restricted T97's are coming to the Canadian market this spring.

NS can do whatever they like. I think they should let consumers know what is really happening with the T97. If they disagree...fine. I think they should do something to head off the vitriol which is inevitably coming when the T97s don't show up in stores this Spring. If they disagree...fine. I personally think this whole situation can easily be fixed by NS with a little bit of PR on their part but, if they think the better strategy is to say nothing and just wait around for months and months... that's their call.

If I get more updates I'll post them, good or bad.

the highlight words have no real value. IE no facts.

the underlined is the case at hand.

Sure...its my opinion, as I made clear. BUT I think my is the most reasonable and logical explanation of what NS said and what MAY be happening. Do I want the gun? Of course. Am I out ANYTHING currently waiting for it? No. If it doesn't come that is $1000 put towards something else. One dealer out of 4-5? that are offering pre-ordering asked for a deposit of $250 (I think?) and if you do not like/want to do that get on a pre-order list that doesn't charge you a penny til the guns are in country.

There is ZERO reason to complain, be moody or insult others like some on this thread have been. 2 things will happen...it will be approved, or it will not be. It is (mostly) out of our hands and dealers having been working for years with the manufacturers and the RCMP trying to make this right. Why? Because if this gun comes in country...I can see it being a massive money maker...$1000 gets you a non-restricted .223Rem compact rifle that takes the common and well loved AR-15 mags and allows you to get into the games like IPSC and bush fun without breaking the bank. Best deal out there in my books.

Well said

NS should just make a simple statement of fact regarding the status of the T97 importation. The embarassment is minor if it's dealt with cleanly and honestly.

Agreed. All the arguing on this forum is speculation. NS could clear everything up with a one sentence statement. I don't think it unreasonable to ask for that level of communication in this situation.

How do you know? Because some guy on the Internet, who can't even access the FRT themselves, said so?

The only items you would be able to call "facts" would be a release from NS.

But keep on trolling, I enjoy the read.

I personally have a secret spy cam inside the RCMP lab and can tell you exactly what's going on in there.

They're drunk.

All the time.

There are piles of amazing guns everywhere, and the techs just keep doing tequila shots and shoving popsicle sticks into the internals of random firearms.

It's like the H&K grey-room if the Germans were to host a kegger there.

Oh c'mon - everyone knows you only use all your secret spy cams to make videos of yourself. You wouldn't waste a camera on someone else. LOL
