i know another one.

i had a chat last week with a friend that had to shoot in DLP a grizzly sow and he was considering something bigger than his stainless synthetic winchester 30-06.

he got tips and hints from others like 300 magnum (winchester, wsm rum or weatherby) 338 win etc.

so in the discussion what will you choose or recommend?

i suggest a 375 ruger or hh if he was going higher ...

all the best.

The .300 wsm was/is the most popular chambering I've seen carried by clients in the north. The .300 was a distant second. I'd go with a light weight stainless rifle with a good premium bullet and kill every thing the Yukon has to offer.

I like my Savage model 116 stainless steel bolt action Alaskan Brush Hunter in 375 Ruger.
Very element resistant, very powerful and will reach out to 200, 300, 400 yards if need be unlike a 45-70 Guide Gun.
It is very compact for transport on planes and ATVs and turns and points fast with its 18" barrel and only weighs 7 1/2 pounds (8 1/4 pounds with the 3-9x40 Leupold scope mounted).
I have the scope mounted with Warne QD scopes so I can default to the iron sights if necessary (scope broke or damaged or dense brush hunting of a wounded animal).
I used to live in Alaska in the 70s.

I've used the 338WM, 35Whelen,9.3,and 375H&H, in British Columbia, my vote goes with the 9.3 loaded with a 250gr Accubond for everything and /or the 286gr Partition for bigger game. light recoil for 375 like power.

I have a nice husky 98, in 9.3x62, 7lbs all up with 4 rounds, peep sights, recond that cover it good enough.

Mine weighs in at 7 pounds 11 ounces loaded with a sling attached. Sounds like yours in damn near it's twin. It was my go to rifle while wandering around grizzly country in the arctic.
