the ultimate Yukon rifle ... your thoughts

There is an old saying about the 303 British cartridge.

"More animals have been shot with the 303 British cartridge than any other cartridge in history"

Unfortunately it goes on to say

"more animals have been wounded by the 303 British cartridge than any other cartridge"

*Disclaimer* I typically agree with everything you say.

Bull. In the right hands the .303 Brit will kill anything on earth.

Agreed it will = but the saying has more to do with the widespread use of the 303 British cartridge more than it not being a capable killer.

It seems to be an overly common suggestion that the common .375 choices are not prudent because a .30-06 or similar round has less recoil and shot placement may be better. I understand the concept and agree it applies to many shooters. The frequency of this suggestion, however, seems to imply that the vast majority of shooters should avoid .375's for this reason.

The recoil level of the common, mid-velocity .375's is stout, but not terrible or unmanageable. I can place them equally as well as I can my .308, but take less shots on range days obviously. In the Yukon, where a variety of classes of game can be found and in a variety of shooting distances, I would prefer a .375 over a .30-06 or a 45/70 as an all around rifle.

Now... I have read a lot about 9.3 x 62 and it sounds to me like a must try... the same way a Laphroaig is a must try for an Ardbeg lover....

That's part of the reason I sold my .45-70. Another excuse was that seems hard to get factory ammunition in .45-70 with appropriate bullets and powder charges for a modern lever.
