The unusual H&K VP70z: initial thoughts and observations

The Colonial Marines were lucky enough to get issued the VP70M instead of the VP70z. Now that would have been a cool scene them in the vents and the guy whips out the stock and smokes a few of the slimy bastards.

It was also used in the crappy 80,s movie "renegades"

Remember having to watch back in the day and noticed the Aliens gun.

Probably the only time a VP70 was pulled on someone in the history of the eaton center.

I am pretty sure that mine was refinished at some point. It looks pretty good—it's actually pretty close to mid mid-1980s P9S that I show in post#1, but weirdly the serial number is stamped on left side of the slide instead of marked on the right side. There's a history here—I'd like to know it.

You sure? Mine looks a lot like yours and it was not refinished. The finishes are solid on these guns.

To be honest it was just a guess on my part. The factory serial number looks to have been removed from the right side of the slide but the finish is good there, as it also is where the serial number is oddly stamped on the left side of the slide. The import marks are usually yellowish, but in this case they're the same colour as the finish, which also led me to think it was refinished post-import.

The finish is so good that it could have come from the factory...I was wondering if it might have been factory re-furb'ed at some point in its life.

The serial number is also missing from the barrel, too.

They look like they could use a trigger shoe. Very nice to see a polymer framed pistol that is not a clone of something - as that is all you see nowadays. Zero imagination out there.

Yikes...I think that this pistol—especially with the factory spring—would be very unsuitable as a duty gun.


There was a VP70z with the factory stock listed on the EE a couple of years ago. That was a very cool, but also quite rare and expensive, gun!

I miss it every day. Never once shot it...

Yes very few of the demilitarized VP70Z/H models retain the selector switch. Also they were shipped in regular small VP70Z boxes with the stock separately without box. The original VP70M box that hold the complete set is one of the hardest items to find.

Here's mine by the way. Got it brand new-ish in box with manual and sight in target. It's one of my favourite guns.

Fascinating, I've not seen one of these before. Great review and writeup. I was thinking it was a mouse gun until I saw the comparison pic!
