It comes up from time to time that the venerable Inglis High Power is still Canada's primary-issue military handgun, despite having been manufactured in 1944 and 1945 ....
Today, while browsing through a DND online photo gallery of our troops serving in Afghanistan, I came across numerous pictures of Canadian military personnel photographed while armed. Two things were very apparent - pistols are pretty standard issue to all ranks over there, and the majority of them are definitely Inglis High Powers. Of the significant number of the pictures in which it is possible to make out what the pistol is - there were 25 Inglis to 2 SIG-Sauer ...
Here are some of the best shots (I saved a whole raft of them - but these are particularly good close-ups ...). I should comment that while the "chest carry" seen in most of these photos seems to be pretty common, there are also lots of pictures showing the pistol carried in the holster strapped to the thigh. The "front and center" method just tends to show up best in photographs, of course, so seems to predominate in these images ....
Enjoy:
Hmmmmm ... "Cocked and Locked" with an Inglis ... ???
