The very best factory bolt action sporting rifle in the world, no holds barred is...

The Belgian made Browning, also known as the FN Browning or Browning safari. Everything else is trying for second place. In my humble opinion.

Couldn't agree with you more !.....had my 375 H&H since new over 40 yrs. ago and the next animal to walk away from it will be the first.
By far the most dependable rifle I've ever had and maybe the best I ever will have. :)

As one colonel said "only accurate rifles are interesting". And I usually go by that. My milsurp, bubba 6.5X55 swede is the most accurate rifle in my battery. Well, I love my mint, 1958 model 70 Featherweight etc. It is almost like if someone was asking, "which of your children do you like best" ?

The Blaser R-84 (the Citroen of rifles - different in almost every way) is far and away the smoothest, fastest bolt gun I have ever used.

Topics like shooting white bread with Rick Teal's bullets are under consideration! :p

Actually, it's interesting to note that despite the passage of about two decades on the internet, and lots of new rifle choices on the market, the old standbys that placed highly when the question was asked in the early days of the net, still place strongly.
{Historical: This question was asked on an American Forum in the early 90's top choices then, parrallel the current choices. Rick and I go way back, although I've never had the chance to smack him for buggering up my threads :D }

This is what I consider the best bolt action rifle- A double barrel bolt action. I have 3 of them, one in 22 Hornet, 1 in 300 RUM and one in 375 Ruger:

I know I'll get flamed for this choice... but for me hands down, it is the Tikka T3 Lite synthetic.
It is:
Light to carry
Accurate as hell, out of the box
Inexpensive
Simple
IMO quite nice to look at in a non-traditional sense.

I have owned Winchesters, Remington, Browning, Parker Hale, Norinco

The Winchester: I still own and is nice, just heavy
Remington: I have found the bolts to have too much play
Browning: just inaccurate (compared to Tikka) but nice and smooth
Parkaer Hale: (ok mine was older) felt like junk, inaccurate and rough
Norico: see Parker Hale but new.

I am getting a Cooey in .308 just because.
