The "What Have You Reloaded Today" thread

Rolled up some ladders of 223 73 ELD-M and 68 BTHP with H4895, going to chronograph them. 22.1-24.0 gr, data is all over the place on similar loads. Going to keep an eye on velocity and see where I hit pressure signs, not afraid to pull some bullets if need be.

Also doing a few 8208 XBR with speer 55 tnt's.

Tonight, I was loading 450gr Spitzers over 38.0gr of IMR4198.

That is one big-a$$ bullet (for FCP bullets). It does seat a long way into that case!

And there you have it…precision 45-70 rounds. If the weather ever warms up, I’ll shoot them.

Just like this…

30 Carbine and 303 British. Got to play with my new Lyman 55. Bye bye Lee, way way smoother operation. Still leaks with H110 but don't think any will work with the basically dust for powder.

Worked well with Reddot too

31 300 H&H and 15 9.3x66/370 Sako. Now have 50 of each for my trip to Namibia in April. Sighted in both rifles yesterday so now good to go. Also finally finished fire forming 375 Whelen AI, so will start load development in the next while.

.300 win mag. 190grn sierra hpbt. 77grns of H1000. Winchester large rifle magnum primer.
Half are done with nickel case, other half is brass. Light crimp.

Haven’t tested them yet or put them through the crono

I loaded some 6.5 Carcano ammunition last week but haven't shot it yet.

Turns out the neck and expander ball for my several years old Hornady die set, which was unwrapped until last week, has its full length resizing die reamed for heavy milspec necked brass and comes with a .266 diameter expander ball, for the large diameter milspec bullets.

This would be fine in most situations but I'm trying three different bullets to see how they will shoot out of my Carbine, with folded bayo.

The first bullets I'm using for this test are Swede fmj/cupro nickle, 160 gr/RN milspec 6.5 (.2635) at the base, for appx 1/4 inch and the upper portion of the jacket measuring .262.

I believe the different diameters may be caused by the insertion of the exposed lead base, rather than by design????

I had to make sure the necks were fully sized and used a sizing die for the 6.5 Creedmore for neck sizing only, along with its expander ball.

This limits how far the bullets can be pushed down inside the case and still be held reliably for feeding, but it seems to be OK.

The second set of cartridges is later Swede fmj milspec 140 gr 6.5 boat tail bullet, with exposed lead base but the diameter is .2635 in for the whole bearing surface.

I'm using the 6.5 Creedmore die to size the necks on these cartridges as well. No issues with neck tension.

The third load is with Hornady .268 in diameter, round nose, soft point, 160 gr bullets. I'm using the Hornady 6.5 Carcno die set for these.
All of these cartridges are charged with 35 grains of IMR4064 over CCI250 primers. Should give appx 2100fps

I had a few pounds of IMR4320 on hand but when I opened them up, they smelled OK but the insides of the cans was coated in rust, so I dumped them. They were the last of a batch of 70+ year old powder, blended with new manufacture. No complaints.

I'm still in the process of cleaning my Carbine, finally got all of the crud out of the bore, which is right on median specs, .257/.268. I'm hoping all three of the bullets I'm loading will shoot well out of this bore, which is shiney bright.

Now, it's time to take down the rifle to its component parts and clean out all of the grease, which seems to be more prevalent than on the other similar rifles I've seen.

Will report back, when it warms up enough to shoot.

Right now the temps are going down to -20+C at night and not warming up past -10C during the day. To cold for my old bones at this stage of my life.

My JR dog doesn't appreciate it either.

Today’s task…precision plinkers. Free brass (once fired range pick-ups).

Loaded up 80 rounds of 7.5 Swiss to run through the K11. Had to alter the label a bit for style and because the boxes I chose hold 18 rounds instead of the usual 10. I like the extra splash of colour by adding the crests
