Both myself and my boss from work, took our limit of ruffies yesterday.. we saw.. no jokes.....25 ruffed grouse yeterday...without trying. It was fantastic.

Also.. believe me or not... i had a eagle snatch a grouse i had on my tool box from me. We were walking looking for more grouse. Whiskey jacks were pestering my truck. And out of no where... swooosh.. big bird came down and snatched it and flew away. Believe it or not doesnt bother me. It was an amazing experience.

Also had a No shot situation on an elk... a black bear I couldnt get into range on...... and Seen a small bull moose I called , and waddled over to trying to challenge him and got to 20 meters ish. There was a huge bull moose beating the crap out of trees further in and all you could see was antlers through the brush. Amazing to see the trees swaying back and forth as his antlers pounded them. Nice to see 5 deer but none were bucks

It was a good freakin day. Camping out next weekend for a two day hunt and this week will drag on so baaaaaad.

Just a few pics i managed to remember to take of yesterdays grouse slay.

Where where you out hunting if you don't mind me asking? I'm up that way next weekend and wouldn't mind getting out for a few hours on Saturday, there is not to much down here so far.

I shot two ruffies tonight. One at about 40 yards, then a miss of the flyer after the first shot.. But I went up to retrieve my one and was searching the trees nearby for more than a few seconds looking completely past the grouse 7-8 feet away from me. Got that one too :)

I made a teriyaki stir fry over basmati rice with ginger, garlic, grouse and red peppers. Pretty delicious.

I bumped into a little family group a few days back and managed to kill two. The great new was that my dog who had been a little "gun shy" is cured. I picked up one bird and she picked up the other and brought it back to the truck for me. Then she showed a lot of enthusiasm to hunt up some more birds.

I took a pic to go in her "puppy album".

I usually shoot grouse with a little double 410 but used my Rem. Nylon 66 that day.

Well, sometimes persistence pays off. I went to a nearby bush chicken haunt yesterday after school with my daughter. We saw nothing on the way in, but on our way out we flushed two birds. We had stopped to look at moose tracks in the dirt, and were standing there for several minutes when a bird took off from some bushes right in front of us. Then a second one rocketed out in the opposite direction. I went after both, couldn't find the first one, but connected on the second one. My daughter was thrilled...the icing on the cake that was our walk that evening.

Well, it's been pretty rotten around here, Cold Lake and region. My harvest list presently stands at just one ruffie & just one rabbit!

What a complete opposite of last year's list of ten grouse, (including two sharptails) and 17 rabbits.

Hasn't been the best around North Bay, only bagged 3 this season and saw 5 total. Maybe I'm not going out enough or to the right places.

Good haul though!

I shot a CRAZY mixed bag yesterday with a new 1100 Sporting 28 gauge... Three sharpies, two #### pheasant, a ruffed grouse and six snipe and woodcock... Really interesting morning... Also found a little honey hole for teal and woodies... I sat and watched them moving for 15 minutes, but had no steel loads with me... Dang it!

CONGRATS!!

The ruffies in our area we just come back from our moose hunting trip were like the moose........few and far between. Actually we seen more ruffies than moose.

Oh well, at least we can hunt the moose till end of the month. First time in 22 years with no moose from moose camp.
