There have been a few recent threads about non-restricted black .223's.

A lot of people are claiming MOA accuracy with all of the above rifles, while at the same toime gawking at the potential accuracy of he others.

I'm hoping some of you fellows can post your benched groupings with you black rifles. I'm debating over my own future purchase and don't want to spend $2K more than I have to to get a decently accurate rifle.

I guess 100yds is the golden standard, but lets see how your rifles preform at any range, with or without optics.... I'm really just interested in the potential inherent in thes rifles.

Test target at 300meters that my classic green came with. I don't think any of the other rifles comes with a test target. Maybe the SL8?

Sl8

Had the gun for a while now and started developing a load. It has a 1:7 twist so the 55 grain ammo I tried first was all over the map. Found some 69 g Federal Gold medal SMK and it shot pretty well. Thought I should go heavier though. My scope is an inexpensive Leapers 3-9 x 40mm mil-dot LP-SCP-394FDRL3. I find it difficult to use. (That's my excuse!)
So the other day I tried the two factory loads; Federal 69 g SMK and Hornady 75 g TAP, and my 75 g A-Max handloads with Benchmark powder. I'm new to rifles and the Harris bipod but the groups are tightening up. I'd like a new scope but for now its not too bad.

Here is a semi-crappy 12 round group at 100m out of my Sig.
6 rounds were fired slow deliberate fire (actually only took about a minute), and 6 fired rapid in under 30 seconds; all for a Swiss postal shoot.
I'm happy about the cluster in the 10 ring, but the others are spread far too wide -this thing can do much better.

More SL8 groups

Here are a couple groups I shot last year from my SL8 topped with a Leupold 3-9 Mk4PR. Both groups are Win USA 45gr JHP... I found these group better than any 55gr FMJ I have tried thus far.

I feel the sig wins so fa!!!

Based on one target? With only one other rifle chiming in?

Sounds like you're a little too eagre to see the SIG win in the first place.

Lets hold judgement until we've got a breadth to decide from.

PS: Beltfed, is that with or without optics? Either way, good shooting.

I should have brought home my targets from my trip to the range today.

I'll make sure to bring home my targets for my SA Black Special showing how it shoots 100, 200 and 300, and if I'm feeling lucky, 400. But Im shooting 55gr, so we'll see. All this and more on tuesday.

Maybe Ill bring some ruag ammo as well, to compare how differnt the 55gr and the 63gr ammo performs.

Computer dots on paper? Lets see a REAL group that YOU shot.

Good thread.

Those "dots" were shot with swiss service ammo GP90 at 300 metres. Not match grade commercial ammo. You also hit the key point of this entire thread. A poor marksman with the best rifle can easily be outdone by a competent shooter with an average rifle. Are we testing/evaluating the inherent/intrinsic accuracy of the rifle, or are we comparing shooter abilities? I think its the later.
