I've read some great quotes by this man, and most recently I was in the Cabela's in Glendale Arizona and they had a plaque with a quote of his regarding people who criticize hunters. I tried looking all over the internet for it but can't seem to find that particular quote.

If anyone can direct me to a good compilation of Teddy Roosevelt hunting quotes that would be great!

but if you're looking for an interesting treatise on conservation please see "State Of Fear" by Michael Crichton. The section on Yellowstone National Park (hardcover pp. 484-486, paperback pp. 530-537) is exceptional.
There's a bit of it, although not as memorable here beginning at "let’s take a case history of our management of the environment".

Interesting about the Crichton stuff, although I was specifically looking for quotes from Teddy.

I did stumble onto the site you posted already. Good quotes on there, but not the one I was looking for. It was something along the lines "The good people who criticize hunting aren't aware of the true job hunter's roles play in conservation of species". I should have just taken a picture of the plaque.

I did consider phoning them, but I would feel bad calling them just to recite the plaque back to me, it was quite a busy store.

I just finished reading AFRICAN GAME TRAILS by Theodore Roosevelt. He makes lots of comments in it. His comments about white rule in Africa would be very taboo by todays standards, even though history proved him right.

The part I found most interesting was when he talked about all the people killed by the wildlife in Kenya. During his tour he was shown the cemetary and told who died of a lion, leopard, rhino, elephant,cape buffalo, attack. Nobody seemed to die of old age back then;)

Wrote about a little girl that went to her bedroom (house was in Nairobi) to go to bed. She walked back to the living room and told her dad calmly, "dad, there is leopard under my bed." :eek:

T.R. was a very interesting man. I have listened to the audio book, "Boy's Life of Theodore Roosevelt" twice, plus another one, the title of which escapes me, but it is about his hunting in the Western US.
