theoretically, which one is inherently more accurate? 7mm mag or 30-06?

well if a guy can accurately guesstimate the wind drifts, a 300 Savage loaded with 180 gr roundnoses has as much long range accuracy potential as a 30-378 loaded with 240 grain matchkings!...all things being equal

In CBA benchrest matches you still see an occasional '06, though there are far better cals....you never see a 7mm Mag....so I'll go with the '06!!

pressure swings blah blah

Hornady states there is pressure swings for the 243 too, and they reccomend not going too far below max with slow powders, then go on to list data for 7828 15 grains below their max

Carlos Hathcock used a Winchester m-70, 30-06 in Vietnam and pulled off some great shots beyond 1000yards.

That has more to do wiht what the military supplied than anyting else.

Most of the Marine snipers in Vietnam were using customized Rem 700's, but not super custom, like the guns they now use.

In essence thewere HB "accurized" hunting rifles.

I still maintain there is zero accuracy differnece between th 2, in a hunitng rifle...

Well,i guess, any guys that does not use a 50 Browning for his Long range target shooting does not know what they are doing, since this caliber has the greatest Accuracy potential at long range.
You are comparing Apples with Pairs now since those two cartridges are not even close, but a 30-06 and a 7mm Rem are.I do agree that they 7mm would give you an edge, but as i said before,it is not noticeable under hunting conditions.

BC and accuracy

What does the BC or the velocity, in this case, have to do with accuracy?Either cartridge is going at supersonic speed and the BC of the 7mm is not that big of a difference compared to .30cals.The only thing that would turn the table at long range would be the shooter behind the gun,me thinks.;)

Try this for accuracy in a good 30-06, which would have an excellent trigger pull. Use a 220 grain bullet ahead of enough H4831 powder to launch the bullet at about 2400 feet, or so, a second. I bet you will be surprised!

sMost of the crappy shooters I've met run the 06, and of that group the majority use semi's. Some will claim it's just a coincidence or sour grapes on my behalf becuase my truck needs a clutch and therefore I can't buy Noel's 06 but I'm prepared to stand behind my findings
