There are 14 Restricted SKS in Canada

As of October 16th 2025, the RCMP say there are 14 registered Restricted SKS Rifles in Canada.

Any SKS with a factory manufactured barrel less than 18.5" long.

Norinco made factory manufactured "paratrooper" and "sporter" versions with 16" barrels for the US market. Some got imported.

Must have been very few in Canada (obviously…. Only 14 registered), because I’ve never seen a restricted model advertised anywhere

Norinco cut some existing rifles down to 16" barrel and also newly manufactured some 16" barrel versions.

Just heard there is soon to be a lot more restricted and prohibited SKS's in Canada soon!

The restricted ones will be native owned.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe there was a restricted firearm registry until '95, meaning there are probably more restricted length SKSs than what the registry shows.

The Restricted class came about in 1968. Since then, any semi-auto center-fire with a barrel length less than 18.5" has been required to be registered.

Where is the barrel actually measured from ?
Just found it . Muzzle end to where it ends on a closed bolt chamber

I’m hoping they don’t try some sneaky BS of saying if you have a status card you can own an SKS . If they do I’m sure there would be a court challenge .

The Restricted class came about in 1968. Since then, any semi-auto center-fire with a barrel length less than 18.5" has been required to be registered.

Unless the barrel was lengthened or replaced with longer barrel, a lot of M-1 Carbines had one or the other done.
