There are quite a few quick sales of k31, Swiss flu is getting worse

I got one from the same batch, and it shoots like a laser! My only regret is that the stock is beat up (especially around the butt plate) and I wish I'd picked up one of the unfinished stocks that CSC had on display.

They have at least one new stock in the display case - I believe it is a Boyd's.

Now that there are no more surplus Swiss army issue K31's coming into Canada or anywhere in quantity anymore, how much does everyone here think they will top out and sell for on the EE in about a year or so, especially now that everybody knows how good a shooter they all basically are?

Are they heading to a $800 milsurp soon, like a nice condition M39 or P17/P14?

I asked a similar question about a year or two ago and a lot of people then said that they were only a $300 rifle at best. One guy here even said that because there were so many of them brought in and sold at $250-$300 they would never be that valuable and would be always available cheaply.

In the few times I see them on the EE now they seem to sell for at least $450 or more and go very quick.

They kind of remind me of the prices nice unaltered Lee Enfields now go for, they made many more LE's and they used to sell real cheap once too.

Shooters everywhere still demand them and supply tap is sputtering.
In the 1970's, a surplus K31 could fetch $700USD in the States due to rarity.
That was mostly plain , no diopters, private series rifles up for sales that were not in Army inventory.
I expect them to get that expensive again in the next 5 years, or sooner.

Egun.de has a so so K31 for 198.00 euros, about 440.00 CAD in today's exchange rate before shipping, taxes, and brokerages.
Simpson Ltd in the US has only one in stock showing, at 800 USD, far from mint condition.

When ever anyone suggests that prices will drop when ammo dries up I have a little chuckle...you know that's why Lee Enfields are dirt cheap these days!

I saw a K31 at the gun show in Montreal 20 years ago in just good condition for $700, I passed and bought a very nice Garand instead for $450, which was too much as well at the time .
Look at the K31 from CSC that's what the price will be in the future. This is still a bargain compared to beat up K98 which go for over $2000.

Should I assume you imported a K11? From Switzerland?

Tell us the story, please? Must be interesting!

I went to a gun show in ZĂĽrich and bought a nice K11 for 50 Francs, took it on the train back to my friend's house without a case, and then had WaffenbĂĽrchler facilitate the Swiss export paperwork and ship it to Canada for me along with 2 other rifles I had acquired. Shipping was the most expensive part, at about $600 for 3 guns, but one was free, one was almost free, so I looked at it as breaking even almost. I shot the K11 at a club in Truttikon before I left and it was shooting extremely well even without diopters at 300m. Very happy with that purchase. The free gun was a 1911 which I sold in Canada to partially cover the costs of bringing in the K11 and the other rifle. The third rifle was a ZfK31/55.

I would encourage anyone else to contact the Calgary Shooting Center before doing it themselves as they can probably be a better deal, but it was something I wanted to do myself at least once.

Mike, thanks for sharing your story, but you forget to tell us when did all that happen.

How much would the price be nowadays? For a K31 in Switzerland?

One friend told me France now allows people to have military surplus and the hungry market is taking a lot of European vintage pieces that should have been ours.

That's about $630 CAD, but they are out of stock anyway.

I think we will not be seeing any more new arrival in the future, if they are that popular in Europe.

Now that they are in short or almost non-existent regular dealer supply and the fact that people now realize how good a shooter most are, they will only go up in value and demand.

Like I mentioned in the post you originally quoted, this was last summer (2015) while I was in Switzerland for the Eidg. SchĂĽtzenfest in Wallis.

For prices in Switzerland this would be a representation of retail prices:
http://www.waffenboerse.ch/catalogsearch/result/?q=SCHWEIZER+ORDONNANZ+WF+31+Karabiner+7,5x55

Better prices can be had at gun shows and through friends, but that's what I was seeing in shops when they had them at all.

I can see the price in Switzerland ranges from 150 CHF to 2300CHF...plus the shipping and papers bringing to Canada. I am sure $250 is long gone.

Just not understand be there any "unissued" K31 around? I saw people mentioning that, never really saw one on sale in any dealer.

IMHO
Put "Un-issued K31" in in the category as Unicorns, Phoenix, Dragons. Pegasus, UFO's, and non-lying honest politicians.
Those really expensive ones are rare sniper variants or from a few version of small runs "Jubilee" models.

I almost wish they don't take a big jump in value.I may be tempted to sell some if they do.

Love the k31, fantastic shooter. Took a nice buck with one of mine, and it sure gets looks at the range.

Yep, fully agree.

Want a "cheap" K31? Join your local Swiss club and make friends with them. You'll learn to shoot and if you're honest and eager you'll most likely have offers of a loaner at least or a a deal on one that an old timer is letting go.

Many years ago, I ordered a K31 from a Western Canadian supplier who had a few "pristine" condition K31s, some with matching bayonets.

I asked them to send me the best they had for a premium price. This piece did not have a matching bayonet, but was the very best of the lot.

I was not disappointed! It is beautiful, not a mark on it. I remember hearing stories of rifles that these were surplus from Swiss police departments but I don't know if there is any truth to that story.

I believe the rifle was manufactured in the early 1940s. Generally speaking, the Swiss looked after their rifles.

Cheers!

I read a post less than two years ago saying the PO exchanged a pistol to an close to unissued status K31 with pic posted. It was a 1950's later production with untouched stock and blue. So nice. I believe the Ex-owner knows nothing about what he let go just for a very ordinary pistol.
