Does anyone use a Thermacell while on stand? I bought one when they first came out, and the bugger didn't even turn on, so I returned it. Anyway just looking for some reviews on it/input. Is it worth me buying another one?

I picked one up, used it once thus far, seemed to work fairly well. But I haven't really had an opportunity to push it just yet.

I have two and take them hunting, fishing, to shooting range, out on deck and working around the house ETC... find it works very well on mosquitos... and is ok on black flies to a point but would still recommend bug netting (head) in the bush. Not sure about other biting flies they don't seem to care about it. Not sure about any other little critters...no contact so far this season.Good sign maybe??

things that effect it/to consider.

-mod-high winds make it useless in my opinion.
-if you are moving around it takes a few mintues to get set up again to the point that it is effective again. You will be bitten during that period without the bug dope/netting.
-it gets warm/the grill part
-fuel/pads do not last as long as advertised in my opinion
-smell if any is extremely faint to me but I'm sure animals could detect it. (some flower)
-Also gives off noise >hisses

I like and use it but to me is not stand alone product like anything else. Used with netting and bug dope it will make your outdoors time more enjoyable I think.

I think they're pretty good, used one a lot during turkey season this year. Had no problems lighting it, then left it sitting about 6-8 feet away when I was hunting. Very effective on the mosquitoes. Definitely a bit of an odour, not overpowering or anything, but I wouldn't dream of using it when scent is an issue (i.e. pretty much anything other than turkey). If conditions were very dry, it would make me nervous using it around dry grass or tinder. On a couple of rainy days, I sat in a pop-up blind and left it just outside, and it still kept the bugs at bay.

Does it give off more of a smell than Off coils I find these last 6 - 7 hours but I only use them on the deck or in camp.

used 1 up north where bugs drive moose on to roads . did not seem too help at all . down here in southern ONT friend used turkey hunting says works o.k.

ok cool thanks guys! I think I'll pick up another one, I must have gotten a defective unit last time. I work outside, but indoors (hangar) so there's no wind, but the bugs still get in...sounds like this would be perfect\

ya I like mine! great for bear season or early whitetail bow season here in Ontario. I have have had deer around me with it going and they didn't hear the faint hissss and didn't seem to smell anything either.......in the wind or if your walking they become not so effective but in a stand or a blind they are great.

Mine seemed to work well the first few times I used it, now it seems to burn too hot and the pads don't last as long, slight wind = useless
