Thermal imaging

FYI these cameras do not see though things like brush and trees. IR light is just like visual light it doesn't penetrate anything normal light can't in fact thin plastic will block it. Now if a deer were to crawl under a brush pile it would warm the brush pile up a bit that it may look warmer than the rest of the area and you could notice that.

This is from a Seek IR camera for your phone...

That's a dodge Caravan approx 100m away and its -12C in Ottawa.

I don't think any cheap consumer cameras will be effective for tracking anything you shot, unless you get much closer. Like stated, IR is mostly like visible light, but heat will radiate thru matter, but it will take time. The prey hiding behind something might lose its internal heat much faster than whatever it radiates goes thru an obstacle.

This is a "55C" cup of hot water outside, I'm approx 1.5m away:

Here I put cardboard between it and me, and you can't see any heat 'thru' it (it's behind the dark right-half of the picture):

So its unlikely to find a squirrel hiding in a leaf nest eh?
I was hoping they would be able to scan tall grass or a few rows of standing corn. If they cant do that ill pass on the idea. Thanks
