Thermold mags? any good?

I have 2 of them. I hate it. My suggestion, find a real mag not the crappy Thermold mags. BTW, these type of mags does not fit in all AR mag hole because of the horizontal rib in the mag body. I have one, which is pretty much useless in my STAG for the above reason.
 
They are one of those love/hate things.I didn't mind them back
in the service,they tend to melt the feed lip on sustained fire,but
I don't think you will have that problem.They are nice and lite.:cool:
 
If the Army rumors where true, the thermomold mags were designed to be a disposable magazine. They were supposed to come in a prepackage ammo bandolier and than disposed of as used. But in the budget conscious army they reused them beyond their service life. They did manufacture at a later date magazines that were actually usable, but by that time overseas experiences with the mags lead to a distrust in the magazines.

That was the origonal concept. They came loaded and wrapped in plastic. You removed the plastic wrap, used them up, and then discarded them on the battlefield. We all know how cheap the CF was/is so they started re-using a disposable item, which ended with predictable results.
 
We never got them pre-loaded ever.

It was the idea - but as we know how the CF stocks ammo - it was never going to happen.

We got issued the Labelle Teflon mags in 95, and until the PMAG I always though polymer rifle mags where a bad joke.
 
I use mine to keep the dust out of the guns. Also for displaying the firearm. They are just empty mag bodies, the feed lips are long since ####ed and the base plates had to be glued on.
 
what would be the better mags to look for long term use & storage? 5/10, 5/20, 5/30 in metal.. I'm in the market soon I just bought some new Pmags on EE in foliage green to match the kit I'm building but if these are junk for long term use, I'm start looking for a few new metal mags.

Personally, I would say look for the 10/10 mags. They don't have the LCF, but at least in a competition you only spend half as much time mag changing.
