Basically it is a form of head cheese which is a form of Pâté. Used to be a common way of making use of every part of the animal. The head cheese version originated in Europe. Head cheese is actually very tasty in sandwiches.

I guess it can quickly get to some people's head when they can literally go out any time of year and shoot what they want, those of us who are limited with tags make sure to enjoy all of what we harvest. Any actions of the sort is despicable but I find it even worse when it's done by those who claim to have been in tune with earth for millions of years and preach their ways but abuse of what was granted to them and do so with technology and gear that would've never been available to them if they would have remained untouched by the west.

A few years ago I saw a show on Pbs about some Metis families. They show exactly the same thing. Two guy shot two cow moose whit 3 unborn calf. They started explaining how this is their tradition and how they respect the animals as they put the last bite into the dead calfs mouth.
I accidentally shot one pregnant doe it was a horrible felling I never want to do that agen
