If we kill every bear for killing a human that is in their territory then they will all be gone.
Is your comment so backwood because your from B.C ?
Anyone who goes out in the bush is part of the food chain, regardless to what you're doing out there, hunting, hiking, camping... If you don't know that you should maybe stick to the city.people assume that the victim, just because he was a hunter, is fair game, but what they don't know is, he was a bow hunter and he wasn't hunting for bear.
.
Pyro,
Land owners in AB can shoot and kill any black bear on sight with no repercussions or even the need to report it. We've lots of blackies. They must report grizzly kills but even then are rarely charged if the bear was threatening livestock or people. Had a student whose dad shot a grizz under his deck last spring. This was EAST of highway 22 for those who know the area.
This wasn't the bush guys. It was a farm in an area that has been farms for decades and that hasn't seen grizzlies for decades. He was killed in a 20-25 acre woodlot completely isolated from the wilderness, less than a mile from a busy highway. Robert Wagner didn't enter the bear's territory. The bear entered ours. My wife's family knew the guy quite well. I teach his relatives. The bears killed and ATE him. Autopsy proved that he was alive when attacked. All 4 should be shot. The 3 cubs will likely be transplanted to Wilmore where they can roam and view the few humans that enter the area as prey.

K98,
Don't be such a dumb s**t when you don't have any of the facts. You're as bad as the antis.
Every time you get out of the truck in bear country you need remind yourself, I'm now on the dinner menu.
It's a risk we choose to take but seldom think about.
Does anyone know what the condition of the downed bear was?
After reading the info here, it appears that YES this Bear was actively stalking. Also I now also think if this is the case then the cubs MUST be destroyed too, as they have been taught to hunt humans.
Camp cook deserved to be called a RETARD for saying he'd kill the SOW and the three CUBS, how can you defend that comment.
one thing i pick up every time there is a discussion about animals instinctually hunting and killing a person, and then the animal subsequently being killed because of it .
why do we not subject murderers to the same treatment ? animals do this because they need to eat, and we subject them to capital punishment because of this, they dont know that its wrong to kill a person ( note: only by our standards is it wrong to kill a person ) . yet when a person intentionally rapes murders and defiles the body of a 15 year old girl, he has rights ? and in the eyes of many it would be wrong to put them to death for their actions
i find it sad that we are so quick to kill and condone the killing of a wild animal doing what it needs when we wont follow suit on our own
just a thought
