They're bringing back the Savage MAKO

It seems that "limited" edition Mako edition Savage (a 17HMR version I am currently shopping for) is so insanely popular that they are bringing it back into production on a larger scale.

I called a big shop in Ontario (Elwood EPPs) and they told me they expect their first shipments in January. They are out of 17HMR but expect more right away.

I called a couple shops in Calgary, and Ontario, and was told by a couple people that the MAKO edition (at least the 17HMR I wanted) was a special order for Australia or something.. and had been cancelled then sent here. It turned out to be so popular they've decided to mass produce them.

I was told I could expect to pay $425 to $499 new for one.
 
As much as I like the Mako stock, I'm kind of hoping that it will stay 'rare'. Now that I have one... Any idea where they are getting their info from? I just did a quick look on savageshooters and savagearms and didn't see anything in regards to the Mako being re released....
 
i was at work so couldnt talk to the guy long, but he did say he had them on order and expected them in january.
you can phone elwood epps sporting goods and ask if you like and report back :)

It does kill the rarity a bit but, the limited run would still be preferable to the mass produced version for collection purposes and they DO look really ###y.
 
I just got one of these this spring for farthers day. Was a little dissappointed at first because the shells would not extract after being fired. But now that I've put a few hundred rounds through her she's been working awesome. No problems, and the gun is very accurate. Even got a badger with it. A really fun gun to shoot.
 
Savage Canada has reported that while the Mako rifles are available to order, they are not listed on the Savage Arms website as standard production guns. Apparently the demand for these particular variants remains relatively low, therefore they are offered on a limited basis only.

One thing to note about the Mako is the shape of the buttstock -- specifically the cheekpiece. Due to the high rise of the cheekrest section of the butt, it is generally required that HIGH rings be used to mount a scope on these guns. Although this does place the optics rather high above the receiver, the shape of the laminate up-sweep does not allow the shooter to press their face down low enough to align the eye with a scope mounted in Medium rings.

Other than that, the Makos have been great sellers through Epps. We are looing forward to our next shipment in the New Year.
