In my part of the world getting to the range in winter is not possible. I am looking forward to spring in order to test out the winter projects. Like many others we like to hammer a few reactive type targets for fun.
For example:
1) Milk jug with water
2) water balloons
etc

Do any of you have some good ideas of fun "safe" targets to blast ? My kids just love this kind of stuff. BTW we always clean up our mess and never use glass or other harmful materials.

Pics would be great too. This long winter is making me twitchy:D

Charcoal briquettes , or 2X2" blocks on a coat hanger.
The briquettes drill easily, and it's very impressive to bust them out at
100 and 200 yards with a centerfire!:D
Try filling a popcan with water and puttingan epmty one on top.
Hit the bottom one and watch the top one fly.
Clay birds aare standard fair as well.....

Milk jug with water is a very good idea, but if you want to see it blow up nice add some food coloring. Lots of red coloring looks pretty cool when it goes up.

filling things with colored gelatin is fun. I like it when cases of pop go on sale. 3 bucks for 12 explosive targets! frozen milk jugs grenade pretty good too with the heavier caliber rifles.

2L bottle of diet coke get a 2-3 test tubes and and a couple rubber corks for them fill test tubes with mentose and drop them in the coke close the cap nice and tight and give it a blast get 2-3 people to shoot at it at the same time for best results.

They normally explode pretty good

Dead hard drives that have been spray painted blaze Orange...IMHO it's the best, and most permanent formatting method around. :D

Randomly staple old playing cards to a backboard. Take turns shooting a poker hand with handguns with a buddy.

22lr and a tennis ball.

Any handgun and tennis balls.

22lr and old fire alarm bells make a nice ding for the kids.

Make a tripod from a couple of 12' 2x2s and dangle eggs from a piece of string. Swing the eggs like a pendulum. No mistake when the kids hit them, and they are biodegradable.

I bought a target a while back and haven't used it very much. It was called the sniper cube form "just shoot me products". It is about 5" on each side and is bright orange. It was expensive, like $90 at the time. It doesn't jump quite as well as on the video but it is alot of fun. I've got at least 200 rounds in it and it isn't really any worse for wear. The only real holes in it came from old surplus 7.62X39. They seemed to tumble and exit at 90 degree angles to entry leaving a "keywhole". Up to that point it took .223,.303 and .30-.378 weatherby with no problems all. All that was left was tiny pin holes.
