So as stated above I think I will be purchasing a sig P226 stainless in .40 new tomorrow. All of the reading I have done says they are high quality and a really good weapon. The few times I have shot a sig I have liked it. My question is does anyone have any reasons to not buy one? I am buying with IPSC in mind and possibly IPDA. Any other suggestions?

I have just ordered a HK USP two tone. IMO HK are better quality firearms.

Check the SIG Forum out. There are a few SIG quaility issues raised there as well as at this forum. But if a P226 fits your hand well and pleases your eyes, go for it!

Good luck.

I've only heard of problems with the X-5s, the regular P226 is drop dead reliable.
USP more reliable than a 226....yeah sure.:onCrack:

As a Habs fan myself I think all of us should own a P226. I own two(9mm) and use one to shoot IPSC whenever possible. May I suggest a Bladetech DOH holster to go with your purchase.

Sure rub some salt into the wound while I suffer with only having one Sig. Note to self: Must win Lottery or get rich Mistress.....

I haven't had any problems with either my X-5 nor my P226-R. Goes bang everytime and very accurate.

If you want to use it in IPSC I’d say get one in 9mm…oh and stay away from DAK. DA/SA version has a way better trigger.

I have a P226R ST in 9mm and while it’s a top quality gun I can’t help to think it’s somewhat overrated/hyped; I like it a bit, but it doesn’t do anything better than my Beretta, which you can get for $200 less… and P226 has a higher bore axis (= more flip)

I think that the 226 was the only pistol I've ever owned which never had any hickups... never.... ever.... If I had to pick a gun for ccw, it would be a 226.

if it fits your hand, go for it! The higher barrel line will give you a little bit more rotation on recoil, but realistically speaking, it's only a couple/few percent of perceived recoil we're talking about, so unless you're in a very tight race for a trophy, etc, who cares... it's a good gun; it's not the best gun, from a pure competition point of view, but that only really matters to those who are trying to be champions ;) Chances are that at your level enjoyment of the gun will count for more than a lower barrel line.

hk usp higher quality than SIG rrriiiight thats why the SAS, SEALS, JTF2 and every other special forces unit choses SIG. Thanks for coming out.

SIG is the most reliable, trouble free production pistol avaliable. it might not be the the best for action comp.shooting, but as a carry gun. I would say its the only one. HK and Glock, in my opinion are the most overated of the production lines, you must try them all and owned it to experienced their potentials, nothing beats the SIGs. Its either I go with a properly tuned 1911 for carry and action shooting type, or Sig.

You can't go wrong with a P226. I have both the HK USP and the P226. If I could only have one, it would be the Sig.

If plastic guns are an option, also try the Glock 35.

There may be several reasons for choosing SIG over HK. Saying one is better than the other based on nothing more than "oh but they chose it, so it MUST be superior!" is simplistic at best.

P226 is a quality pistol and the grip was the best fit for my large hand.......but I sold mine because of the higher bore axis. A good compromise was the CZ 75B but I ended up with a Glock.

FN was your sig, cz, and glock all the same calibre? why Glock over the cz or sig?
All 9mm. Lower bore axis was the main reason I kept the Glock. I felt I was faster to get back on target and therefor more accurate.....but I am happy just grouping on paper.:D
