Think I found my 1/2" group @ 50yard ammo!!

Today my buddy and Hit the range to try out a super variety of ammo. One brand I have NEVER tried was Blazer. If I had more I would have attempted the challenge. Once I get more I surely will make the attempt. My two are the ones on the left side.. my bottom group was amazing!!!!

Blazer is good stuff for bulk ammo. Also try cci standard velocity.

Lots of ammo will give you some 1/2" groups at 50 yds, however all 5, 1/2" groups, on 1 page can be a little tricky with bulk ammo. Good luck with your quest, there was a guy on another recent thread claiming he could shoot 1/4" groups at 100 yds with Blazer

Heck, I can't even get 1/4" groups at 100y with Midas + and X-Act

Yeah, I wouldn't be excited over a single group. Maybe ya found a good batch of Blazer and it's working with your rifle? Who knows, you'll find out soon enough.

Speaking of bulk ammo, what's the Federal equivalent of CCI SV? Is it Federal Premium? I'm guessing Automatch is along the lines of Blazer

That's for sure. I don't how many targets I shot with 3 out 5 and 4 out 5 under 1/2" when trying to qualify for the challenge. I hope nobody starts the my 22 can shoot 1/4" groups at 100 yards challenge cause that one's deffinatly out of my league. LOL. I'll give another vote for trying the CCI SV. Shoots great in a couple of my 22's.

I was just going to say the same thing. Whenever I do a test over a variety of ammo mfg's I take the best result, go back to the store and buy up all of the same lot# . Like any manufacturer, their machines are calibrated at regular intervals and sometimes you just find the right lot at the right time. Never buy ammunition produced on a Monday, lol.

Barrel harmonics are very important to understand as well. When the bullet exits the barrel in accordance with all the vibrations and kicks is a huge factor.

I get a half inch group myself with the Savage Mk 2 FVSR using CCI Standard velocity 40 LRN. The federal automatch, a 1 inch or more. CCI CPRN 1.5"

I understand that 1 group that tight "may" not mean anything. However I have to try. I shot 13 different types of ammo yesterday. This was my tightest group of all. Winchester Subsonic 45g was 2nd best followed up by Federal Target.

I just about made the challenge with American eagle and my cz 452 FS , one flew on the 5th group. Made it up to 3 groups a couple times , now I'm doing the 90% varied range MOG challenge for the summer . So far so good

My Mark II seems to really like the Blazer stuff. I haven't tried any expensive ammo, so I'm sure there's better stuff out there, but the Blazer works pretty well for me. I haven't even shot my CZ yet, so I have no idea what's going to work for it.

These results are valid for the rifle used to obtain them, a Bleiker with a barrel tuner. Shooters of .22LR should be aware that they will be more than very challenged to reproduce the kind of results referred to above.

Simply put, using Blazer or American Eagle or other inexpensive bulk ammo to consistently shoot MOA at 50 yards or more is a pipe dream. Inexpensive ammo does not have the consistent muzzle velocity that such shooting demands. That's why it is inexpensive. It may happen once or twice but it won't happen consistently.

With an accurate rifle, some of the "bulk" ammos can shoot surprisingly well. MOA is a realistic achievement at 50 yards, the tolerance for velocity variation is pretty generous (This says nothing of consistent round weight, shape, "trueness" in the casing, consistent neck tension.. etc..) I've yet to chronograph any blazer or American Eagle, though I can tell you Thunderbolt exceeds the extreme spread requirement for MOA at 50 yards. SK High Velocity is MOA capable.

The velocity requirements for MOA at increasing distances is not static, it is inverse proportional at least, possibly exponential. The further you go, the tighter the extreme spread must be to maintain MOA, and nothing less than lot tested match ammo will deliver this with any kind of consistency.
