Howdy....

Am fairly new to shooting and this board. Friend of mine got me hooked on this sport and now I can find no way out:runaway:

In any event, licensing not withstanding, I have been shooting the M&P 9, the CZ-Shadow and the CZ9....

I really like the M&P and have decided (I think) to go for the M&P .40....

anyone w/any actual real life comparison knowledge??? Feedback is appreciated.

If it works for YOU better than other guns and you can get what you want as far as accuracy etc., get one then. There is no real downsides for M&P.
I still prefer CZ handguns thou for guns in the same price range.

I recently took my daughter out to the range...she, like all members of my household have their full PAL, and she put downrange rounds from a variety of offerings....
We used a Glock 19/17, SIG 226/229 (both 9MM and 40S&W),etc, but the unit that she like the best, and was the most accurate with, was the M&P in 40S&W.
The M&P, in 40S&W, is much more pleasant to shoot than a Glock22, and seems to have superior accuracy...in the hands of myself and my daughter anyway.....
When I a give newbie a chance to trial all of my different pistols, the M&P is usually close to the top as a favourite...

Why M&P .40 and not 9mm? You said you've been shooting the 9mm version...

with .40 you have to pay more for ammo, and you get more recoil. Neither is a good thing for a beginer...

M&P is a great pistol, if it were me I'd go with the 9 over the 40. 40 really has no advantages for the non-reloader, while 9mm is much cheaper and more readily available in factory loads. As far as the pistol goes my next gun will be an M&P in 45 (I'm reloading 45)

This morning I shot my M&P 40, STI Spartan 45acp, and my STI Edge 40.

At 10m with the two STI's I can make ragged one hole groups. With the M&P I can't. The gun is accurate enough and I am sure could be equally accurate, but the trigger, at maybe 6 lbs, I find too difficult to control each shot.

At 25m with the Edge using a two hand 'barricade' hold I can get a group around 4 inches ( 3 inches if I take away a couple of called 'flyers'.) The M&P group was about twice the size.

Good service gun the M&P, but for pure target shooting acccuracy I'd go for something else.

Had a Glock 22 , I sold it and bought a M&P 40 .
The Glock is a great platform but the M&P has several features I like .
The CZ Shadow would have been my first choice but it only comes in 9 and there is no way I'm setting up to do two calibers again .
If reloading is not a concern the 9 may be your best bet .
