I've been thinking about buying a 10/22.Just the most basic wood stocked cheapest new one I can find.I gather there's many modifications for em.That apply to all of em? is there anything a fella should know before venturing into the 10/22 world?

they are fine bone stock.
they are the lego of the gun world.
you can play with them normal or you can build onto them to your hearts content.
i enjoy them - they are a love or hate thing, just wait a couple minutes im sure a couple haters will be along to chime in.

now that the RCMP has made the 25 rd mags illegal, 10/22 has become a little bit less fun.
but I still enjoy shooting mine. it's just annoying to have to reload after every 10 shot unless u buy a shot load of mags.

I want one so bad, but I'm a big bolt gun guy because I like accuracy... I don't buy a 10/22 because I know I will fall into the rabbit hole and drop 2 grand on it over a years time.

How long have the 25 round Mags been illegal?

Basic considerations are, Blue metal or stainless, then wood or synthetic stock! Then you can change out just about everything or not. I love the 10-22 & changed out the trigger group, installed a bolt buffer & modified the bolt release which is easy to do! I like the factory look as well, but it is a personal thing how you configure your gun.

Get a 10-22 & enjoy the .22 rimfire cartridge.....

I got a few Different 22lrs.I love that cartridge.accurate and cheap.

Cabelas has the synthetic stainless 10/22 on for $350 right now. I picked up a 50th Anniversary Contest Winner 10/22 when they were available, paid more than one should for a 10/22 but I liked that it came out of the box with the fancier stock and unnecessary muzzle break.

I have yet to see a 25 round magazine that worked consistently anyway

The 10-22 is a good 22 semi auto, that rotary magazine is a winner, also there are a lot of goodies available for them. Mine is the deluxe model so I don't see any need to tinker with it except for the scope. I have several other semi auto 22 rifles, a Marlin Model 60 which I've found to be more accurate than the 10-22, but the Marlin needed "breaking in". I also have an old Stevens/Springfield rifle I inherited from my grandfather and a Remington Nylon 66 that came from my father.

I do like Ruger's 10-22, but I tend to take the Marlin out more. I like its 14 round tube over the 10-22's 10 shot mag.

Just buy a dlask dar 10/22. $1200 will get you something pretty special. 10/22 can be as accurate at most. Nothing beats doing triple taps (or more)at 100-150 yards and hearing the steel ping, ping, ping...
