Agreed - but a long thick picatinny rail bolted on the bottom of the forend stiffens it enough to allow more forward mounted bipods with no POI shift -
More holes to drill though :)

OK I'll bite. Yea a picatinny rail will make it stiffer but it you want a solution like the viron you posted then you have to be willing to trade off forward weight, etc. Basically you turn a fairly well balanced rifle into a bench gun which is fine if all you wanna do i punch paper from on shooting position at the range all day. I you wanna compete, hunt, train etc the one trick pony gun begins to suck. Keep in mind all the guy wants to do is mount a bipod that he can take on and off.

molehill => mountain :D

The rail weight is negligble , and a stiffer forend results -all good.
A bipod up front changes the balance to heavier up front-all good for off hand shooting ala olympic .22's and running boar (less barrel sway) -all good.
A front forend is much steadier on a bench than a rear mounted one -all good.
Iff'n you like the normal balance -all bad.
I dont mind the trade off - :cheers:

Got a question. That hole at the front of the M14 stock. Are you supposed to leave it open or can you use it for a Harris bi-pod adaptor?
