thinking about a maverick 88 or a 870 express

They're both great guns, I've had both in the past. Personally I liked the remington better because it weighed more, both functioned flawlessly. Any idea if this forum sells shotguns? Or is it just strictly firearm parts in equipment exchange? Thank you

What didn't you like about the Winchester? Fit/finish? Feel? Function?

It's lack of accessories as well as it's construction, there was quite a bit of plastic. I wanted a decent pump I could swap into a tactical build or a hunting set up at will and I had a hard time finding a longer barrel for clays. Its not a bad gun but the action felt and sounded cheap and the hammer didn't strike quite as hard as a Remington. However, it was a very smooth action and could slam-fire. It's not as heavy as a Remington but not as light as an 88.

It's finish was a matte, not parkerized so it was easy to scuff. I paid $350 after taxes and for an extra $50 it's hats off to an 870 model or cheaper 88 for what you're getting.

I have a Maverick 88, and don't see anything wrong with it. This would be a good place to start shooting and see if you like it. With the money you save, you can buy quite a few boxes of target shells.

mav 88 imo. i'd stay away from the 870 express line.

but getting an older mossy 500a is best imo. I got mine (A Canadian made Lakefield version no less!) off of the EE here for 250 last summer. what a great deal that was!

I love it! right up there among my faves of what I own.
