I'll come straight out and be completely honest... im more of a off the shelf kind of guy who adds my own parts to make it mine. But I tend the leave the basics to the manufacturer. But for some reason I got this crazy idea that I want to build an SBR AR (10.5 or 11.5 im not sure yet). So im looking for an upper and lower and im hoping to make this AR all tan... or as much tan as possible. But as usual performance and reliability come first, aesthetics second. :) Keep in mind this is a US rifle, not a canadian rifle.

Hit up Brownell's.com, Since your in the states, everything they have on their site is available to you (I hate you...lol) They have all the parts you need with quite a wide selection, with great prices to boot. They also have all the tools you will need to assemble, aswell as all the "how to" videos to help you along the way. It truly is the one stop shop. As fair as brands go...

I am a Magpul slut everything they make I want, they also carry Noveske parts, Midwest Industries Parts, Wilson Barrels, the list goes on, just stick to the well known name brands and you'll come out on top...

Also try to buy as many parts as you can keeping within 2-3 name brands, I personaly wouldnt want to get to much of a franken AR...

I like alot of Magpul stuff as well.... and what I can get from them Im going to get from them. I was thinking a noveske upper and lower. Im not sure about trigger/firing mechs. Since I want to do an SBR will I have to register it with the Govt first or after I build it? Again I have a few class 3 things but when I filled out the paperwork it was at the shop prior to buying. This is a little different since im going to build it. The good thing is i have alot of friends that have built them so if I get stuck, need tools, or get sick of building it myself I can have them help me lol

I'm not to keen on US laws, so that will prolly be a question for your buddies...

Also, you will not get tired of building it, If you are a man and like to tinker with high quality parts to create something beautiful yet deadly, you will love every minute of it. Everyday will be Christmas once those parts start rolling in... and theres no doubt you will be dreaming of your build everynight... (atleast thats how it was for me, I've seen your toys posted here, you're guna be in heaven!)

Just get an armorers wrench, some small punches and roll pin punches, some needle nose pliers, and a selection of screw drivers and your set. (Most of which you prolly already have, a good armorers wrench is about $80 bucks on Brownells)

Good Luck PE, and keep us posted on your progress... Ask away any questions during your build, all the guys here will help ya out!

I've got a question in regards to building a gun like this from parts and it would be Serial Number wise. When you buy the Lower Receiver is it already stamped and gets registered as normal and then you simply buy everything else and put it together ?

When I was living in the US I bought lots of stuff from Rainierarms . They have lots of high end parts there

They generally have for 10.5s Noveske, WOA , Shilen and Saber . I have both Noveske and WOA from them and both run like a top. If you have the $$ go Noveske. It comes with a pinned low profile gas block ...keep that in mind when you are pice comparing

I you want to go Tan, then the DD Tan colour ( sorry color ) MK18RIS II rails. Hey why not go true to a MK18 if you want a shorty . The rail will cover your gas block

They carry so many lowers that it will make your head spin

Tan stock of your choice and you are good to go.

Their prices are very fair , even compared to Brownells ( an I Brownells dealer pricing ). Brownells is great for higher end triggers, carriers and bolts , but for the better rails, uppers , lowers , barrels expecially in 10.5 they are not the go to place. The only 10.5s Brownells has are DPMS utility grade. I have used them and you get what you pay for

Example : Geissle trigger from Rainer same price as Brownells but comes with all 3 springs for Match / DMR / Service pull weights

Once you deal with them, you will give them all your business.

Parts that could have the ATF knocking down your door if you have constructive possession of a SBR without an approved form 1.

I was answering the question of the guy from Ontario, not the OP. :)
