Ok, so I'm thinking about my first bolt gun. What I'm picturing is something in .308, short barrel around 14-16" heavy profile, lightweight stock or chassis and interchangable mags. I would really prefer something that has 10 round mags for .308, or after market mags available in that capacity.
I like the idea of a Rem 700 action as they are ubiquitous, parts are easy to find and fairly inexpensive. I'm not set on that action for certain though.
Does anyone know of a seller in Canada, or a US manufacturer that sells an already complete rifle of this style?
I'm looking for a 300-500 yard gun, not a mile or more.
I expect to use it mostly for target practice, with the option of hunting deer with it. It will not be a safe queen, and I'll worry about glass for it later as it will be a challenge to save up the money for the gun first. Budget is an issue, cheaper is better so long as quality is decent.
