thinking about reloading 223 not sure if economical or not :/

As others have said ........ if you want to blast away in bulk, buy in bulk. If you want accuracy, load your own. If you have a precision rifle you can't afford not to load your own since life is too short to shoot inaccurate rifles. Loading your own ammo & tailoring it to your rifle is very satisfying and will let you get the most out of your firearms.

Pretty much all been said, but when I'm out shooting nice tight groups with my cheaper gun then the guys with an expensive gun with factory ammo... It makes sense to reload.

I dont even buy 223 ammo anymore. All I load is hunting ammo. It costs me $6-7 for 20 rounds of hunting ammo and its $21 per 20 rounds to buy it. I will take that savings any day.

I'm just starting out as well. I'm not sure what my cost are yet and I'm using someone else's tools.... Which is probably the best thing you can do since your starting out... Find a mentor! They will become a good friend and offer you experience that youtube can't give. Go meet at the range , talk and have fun. Supply your own components (brass, primers, powder, projectiles) and do as your told. Ask lots of questions.

I've met two mentors off here and that's what I've done. I have been invited to both their houses, met their loving families and got more from them than I planned. I can only hope that I can return the favor to them and to someone else one day.

Good luck and be safe!

great post! we need more of this....

thx guys for all the reply ! for now i am just blasting ammo through my AR, but i am consider picking up a 223 remington 700 in the near future so perhaps the reloading could wait. Never the less, anyone that lives in victoria wants to show me the ropes on reloading sometimes for a 6 pack ? :D

I have just started out reloading also... I did the math with using store bought match grade ammo hornaday and Remington (accuracy) 223 ammo....And you will spend 30.00 a box and up for 20 , rounds, so that works out to be 1.50 each Shot...

You figure you go to the range and shoot 3 or 4 boxs easy on a saturday afternoon 120.00 easy

I spent 800 on a kit and most stuff needed to start out ( with , horaday amax bullets etc Hodgsons h322 powder and used my spent Brass for before(witch you can use at least 5 times)
...Powder with one pound you can use for 7000 gr. each bullet at 24gr= 291 rounds @ 38$
... New brass if getting started is $40 for 100
...1000 primers is $30

and so on ...

These people are all right, its fun and enjoying also, I figured it would take me 800 rounds or so to pay all my equipment off....So meaning I can make 1 round for .30 thats a 1.20 saving for each round, so yes to me there is a big savings I made 80 rounds in about 3 hours ( with clean and deprimed brass) So right there I saved myself $96

HAVE FUN !!

If you want to get started, you could get a lee loader kit for about $30 if you can find one. Then all you need is a plastic mallet and a 2x4 hardwood to keep you from damaging the table you're working on. get either a lee dipper set, or a good balance beam scale, and a few books, and you're good to go...
