Thinking of a 50 yard rimfire accuracy challenge

Some people have expressed some interest in an accuracy challenge similar to the ones in the precision rifle forum. Is there any interest? Also what should the requirements be? I was sort of thinking .5" at 50 yards/meters. But my concern is the wide array of rimfires. I would like to keep it to just one challenge. I don't want to start breaking it down in to categories like semi, bolt, heavy barrel, target, etc. so what are your thoughts for this challenge.

Sure! Here is my choice. How about offhand at 50 meters. Iron sights and one handed? ;)

Make it one category, five shot groups at 50 yards. You will likely have actions of several types that will qualify. I have both a bolt action, and a semi auto to test when the weather cooperates.

This will be great. Can't wait to see all those 10/22's and Savages that reportedly shoot bug holes with bulk ammo! :)

I think that to claim you have a halfway accurate rimfire it must shoot sub .5" at 50. So lets start there?

Ill have to give this a shot.

With all the controversy the past while it will be exciting to see them come out of the woodwork

I shoot a lot of rimfire, and would love to put my 40X or my SUHL 150 on the bags for such a challenge.
Last 4 groups from the 40X at 50M averaged .123" [5 shot groups]

I think a lot of the "internet groups" will fail to appear here, lol.

UTG it's your challenge, but why not a .22lr challenge? Some of these guys have 17s that make my cf look ghetto. :)

Either way, I'm in.

.5 moa is only about ¼" at 50M.
I would suggest that such small 5-shot groups will eliminate most rimfire shooters immediately.
I think it might surprise one to see how few actually shoot ½" [not ½ moa] at 50M.
My personal experience with ordinary 22 rimfires and run-of-the-mill ammo tells me
that there are far more "talkers" than there are "shooters" on the internet.

Hey Eagleye, that's only four groups :p

I know, I know :D
The target was shot last year, before any challenges were issued.

Do you suppose it would have been hard to punch a 5th group with this combo?? lol.

I shot a IR 50/50 match at our local club here last fall with that 40X, and broke the club's standing record.
It's definitely a shooter, and if anything, the Suhl 150 is a wee bit better.

50 meter Challenge Guidelines; .22 LR only... 5 shot groups (not 3 EE)... 1/2" @ 50 meters (showing calipers in picture)... two groups on ONE page.

My semi's and bolts will all be in there... with run-of-the-mill SV's... this I know because I have calipered hundreds of groups... sub MOA is my minimum expectation, or "down-the-road" they go...

Its easy to shoot the occasional 1/2 inch group. What would make it interesting would be multiples (3-5) 1/2 inch groups on the same paper like Eagleye just posted.

***edit: Oops hoytcanon beat me too it****
