Are they as good as all the hype ? Calibre magazine did a review, and stated that these were very good. I've never used a 9mm for target, I like a 1911, GSP in .32. I don't compete any more, just want something I can practice with, and I don't want to reload, hence the 9mm (cheap ammo, not really worth reloading)

Yes they’re very accurate, but I preferred the shadow 1 rubber grips.
For me ,1 with adjustable sights is just as good as a 2.

What sort of target shooting are we talking about? If its some sort of action shooting, then if having handled the gun you like the fit and ergonomics, then its a good gun. I think on paper, there are many good guns, ie accurate, good trigger and sights. The biggest differences come down to how it fits your hand, whether you like the placement of the controls.

As well, take into account the rules for whatever competition you may enter with respect to the state of the gun when drawn from the holster. This is a double action, external hammer gun. That may effect your choice, depending on the rules for the state of the gun at draw. Some may prefer a striker fired gun with no safety. Think about that.

IPSC - Handgun ready conditions

"Selective action" – Chamber loaded, hammer fully down or decocked, or chamber loaded,
hammer cocked with external safety applied.

Shooting, rested at 25 metres, the Shadow has been the most accurate, for me.
I’ve tryed
Glock 17
S&W M&P 9
FN 9 mm
CZ 10 F
Spring field 1911 9 mm

My buddy said it was just as accurate as his Sig 210?

I have a CZ 75 SP01 and it's a fantastic pistol. I bought it for practice and really didn't see the need to go to the full blown Shadow 2 if not competing.
No issues so far with 1500 rounds down the pipe. I like the grips on mine - nice in the cold weather!

The Shadow 2 is an awesome gun and I say that as someone who didnt like it initially (I much prefer straight triggers).

I instantly found it more accurate and easier to control than my other pistols but the real turning point was when I fitted the wide safety after being recommended to do so.

When I got used to having my thumb on top of it the gun just felt right and worked for me. Couple that with some aftermarket springs and its perfect.

With the aftermarket springs the DA pull is much better and the SA trigger is very light (to the point that it still catches me off guard occasionally).

The Shadow 2 has been super reliable for me too, definitely not fussy on ammo (mine shoots best with 147gr).

I`m honestly thinking of selling my other pistols cos they never get used although I do have an itch for a 2011 or Laugo Alien.

Another $600 on top of the Shadow 2's $1200 price-tag will net you the SIG P226 Long Dust Cover (LDC) Model, made in Germany with full-length Stainless Steel Frame, Slide, Barrel and Guide Rod. Designed to directly compete with the Shadow 2, the SIG offers a 6 lb double-action Trigger-press and a 3 lb single-action press with a 1.5mm long Reset - super short and fast! The SIG also features adjustable Target Sights and a recessed, Target Crown. Although my P226 LDC is new to me, I was able to fire a Toonie-sized 10-round ragged hole at 7 yards on my first trip to the range. The SIG is superbly accurate, reliable and ergonomic. Try one, and you won't look elsewhere...

The optics ready shadow is my favourite handgun. For reference I have 2 sig p226s, Walther PPQ, and a kimber 1911.

If you're looking to just punch holes in paper I'd almost go with a used shadow 1 and spend the money you save on ammo. Having said that I do prefer my Shadow 2 over my Shadow 1.

Like others have said, the Shadow 1 is a fantastic gun. If you're not planning on competing with it, I'd pick up a Shadow 1, unless the price difference isn't really a concern.

But either way, yes. Buy Shadow. Shadow good.

Old bullseye shooter here, still shoot my GSP sometimes. I've shot a couple of other people's Shadow 2's -- nice pistols ! Thought I might like one myself. My only criticism would be that the sights are elevation adjustable but not adjustable for windage - really ?
Friend bought one, found somebody online (in Czech. IIRC) and got a fully adjustable rear sight for about $40.

You will not be disappointed if you choose CZ’s 1911 killer.

The Shadow2 creams every 9mm auto under C$1300.00, including 1911’s, Glock’s, Sig’s, ..... name it.
Outstanding design, construction & quality, the S2 acts like a target gun at 25 yards, & will easily punch out the X-ring on a B27 target @ 15 yards.

I am considering a shadow 1 vs. a shadow 2,,,was wondering if you could provide a little more insight as to why you feel the shadow 2 to be better (based on your personal experience).

Shadow 2 is heavier and has better trigger, especially in DA, out of the box but these are small differences. The Shadow 1 is also outstanding and you will never outshoot either. Shadow 1 are going for reasonable prices on the EE. 700 for an excellent pistol like the Shadow 1 is a steal. No other gun in that price range will hold a candle.

I have owned and shot both extensively. The Shadow 2 is better. If you have big hands it makes it better still. There's a reason it's the best selling pistol for production division. Nothing even comes close. No Sig or Glock can touch it. You can find mildly used ones for around a grand.

I found the triggers excellent on both.
Shadow 2 has adjustable sights, but only for one direction.

For me ,either 1 or 2 with fully adjustable sights and I prefer the rubber grips on the 1 as they fit my hand way better than the aluminum grips, that come on the 2.
You really red to try both sets of grips as they both have a very different feel.
Small hands = aluminum
Big hands = rubber

Also, there is a lot of pre travel in the DA pull, if that’s a concern for you.

As Grizzlypeg noted it will depend on what type of shooting you want to do. However, I did get a chance to handle a Shadow 2 SAO at the SHOT Show and must say it was pretty spectacular. Beautiful light trigger comparable to the one on my CZ Tactical Sport and in a more compact package. I love 1911s so not a fan of DA/SA triggers but I would buy this one. I don't know how much they will cost but if you can afford it you should definitely look into one.

Have a sp-01 shadow and getting a shadow 2 today.

Looking forward to the higher grip angle and weight. Trigger has a minor improvement over shadow1 but not that big a difference.
