I saw a JR carbine in 9mm in my local gun store for $900. I'm really interested in it, but before I spend that kind of money I would like to hear some of your personal experiences with it. Also, is it true that you can get a 33 round mag for it?

I love mine. It's a nice compliment to my Glock 17(same mags). You can get 33 round mags however they are pinned to 10 as per regulation. As for optics I guess it depends on what you want to spend. I'm just using an 80 dollar red dot sight I got from bass pro it works for me. fun to shoot!
I like mine, its cheap to feed since I reload 9mm. I also bought mine used and it was setup for a lefty so I switched it back over to right hand and found out it was missing a small internal part. I contacted the manufacturer and they shipped me a new part at NO CHARGE knowing I had bought it second hand. For optics I have a cheap illuminated scope on it, it works fine.

I have 1 of the first batch(s) that came into Canada, it has the little extension screwed onto the end. Have a halo red dot on it, bi-pod, flash suppressor/compensater, 2-33 round mags, 4 KCI 17 round mags, 4 Glock 10 rounders. I must have close to 3000 rounds through it. It is an absolute blast on gophers. Switch it from right to left all the time for my 78 year old mother, she likes it for gophers too! The only thing I would do differently is buy 40 cal mags so I could get more rounds into each mag as you can go through ten soooo fast...

I have a .40 and love it. Reliable and amazingly accurate for a pistol cartridge at 100yds. I have a Tasco red dot and BUIS on it, can also take off the dot and rearsight to mount a scope. The scope will go on shortly when the gophers get going.

When I had my 9mm I bought the 45 kit for it and it ran good for me. Sold it now though
My buddy just sent his back, it blew out the side and put brass in his face (no lie). .45acp model, it never did feed right, but he put up with it until it went BOOM out the charging handle port (they are open both sides). Cartridge obviously discharged out-of-battery.

I have one...but it took a new feed ramp, larger buffer, different buffer spring, and coning out the chamber per the instructions from JRC to get it feeding right...finally. Very accurate and soft shooting carbine in the .45 ACP. I love mine now that it's feeding well. Great support from JRC...but sure frustrating as hell when it wasn't working.
With the take down tube, I can remove the barrel in seconds and the pieces fit nicely in a 25" discreet case. Very packable in this format.
I'm sure you can. They have undergone some changes and the newer ones probably have worked out the issues.
Even so, JRC is very forthcoming with support. On of the reasons guys buy these type of guns is that they really don't mind tinkering, and it's a good platform for that, perhaps more so than the Thureon or the Storm.
got one used a couple years ago, sold as a good shooter but was not, JRC worked with me for a year, yes they were only playing with the buffer weight back then, since they have sent new parts free of charge and after longer tube, new buffer spring feed ramp its a nice gun, rarely have a failure even shooting reloads.
from what I am told the new 45s are fine just the earlier ones, this was one of the first sold but cheap to shoot when reloading, accurate as 45 are and very well built, only down side is the cleaning takes a wile.
I would recommend the 45 and JRC will help 100% with any issues
