Thinking of buying a JR carbine

Thureon Defence is of better quality, The JR my friend has just doesn't run and the retailer keeps telling him it is the ammo no matter what brand he uses, I assume they are doing this because they will not take it back as defective.

I have one in .45ACP and no complaints. As mentioned here and in other threads on CGN, there were feed issues with earlier models but they've sorted them out. I've got a TRS-32 on mine.

Customer service has always been good. FYI, they are also supposed to be putting out 10mm and .357 SIG models before long.

I already did some research on this because I was very interested in getting a pistol caliber carabine in 9mm. The JR was the first one I looked at but I got very conflicting reviews, either the rifle was great or it was garbage, even iraqveteran88 was disappointed. The rifle is not well designed for repeated disassembly either. I then considered the thueron defence but could only find it in 10mm in Canada..

I finally decided on a TNW aero, very nice, completely modular and reliable. Also cheaper.

I love my JR. Feeds just about any ammo, just have to run a little on the wet side. I put a Bushnell AR-22 scope on it at the ballistic drop is close enough to the same as a .22 to make it usable. I've run 3 gun with it, banged the gongs at 150. Very reliable. The KCI 10/33 round mags need to sanded down just a hair so that they drop free, but the Glock mags are OK.

Had mine for about 2 years now. It's a 9mm and with jacketed/plated bullets it has run fine (don't think I've ever had a FTF/FTE). With cast 125 gr. RN bullets I do get the odd jam. I think this is attributable to a tight chamber as the cast bullets are .356 and the jacketed/plated are .355. Bullet profiles are the same so that's the only explanation I can come up with.

Admittedly disassembly is a bit of a pain but I have a rail clamp that holds the gun in a vice and makes removing the buffer tube easy so cleaning is not a big deal. I have found it functions pretty well even when dirty so disassembly doesn't have to be that frequent. Just keep it well lubed. Someone said it should be run wet but I seem to recall the JR manual recommending dry lube so that's what I use and it think it helps keep it from gunking up.

I also think that aesthetically it's the best looking of the JR/Thureon/TNW Aero triumvirate. Because it seems to be based on the AR there are lots of options for customizing (triggers, handguards, stocks, etc.) if that's your bag. I also own a NR Beretta CX4 and like it a lot as well but there a very few options to dress it up so what you see is what you get.
