Thinking of buying a Russian SKS

I agree, my local guy had them at $179, but now they're $199. There's a tipping point around there. $179 is an okay price for a refurb if you don't have to pay shipping but $199 is a little over the edge IMO.

We sure are spoiled with good quality SKS's here, and for cheap. Even at $199 I think it's a fair deal for a Tula and nothing to sneeze at. From what I have found from my research, down in the States you'd be lucky if you could get a bad refurb for any less than $350. If the Americans could get access to what we have, and at the same prices, the SKS would probably be one of the most popular rifles around.

Yeah, the Yanks don't like us rubbing in the fact that we have easy access to the nicest SKS's in the world. They try to make themselves feel better by sneezing at our limited mags, but of course, they have god aweful importer stampings on their receivers and/or barrels.

Thanks for all the helpful posts in here, everyone.

I can neither confirm nor deny that 2 SKS's were purchased... and I also can't confirm nor deny that paint thinner and hot soapy water is the ticket to getting cosmoline off easily... Especially when you by a long tote from CanTire for cheap and are able to completely submerge metal parts. A simple paint brushing with the paint thinner and then a hot cloth wipe down was the ticket for the stock. Again though, pure speculation.
