Thinking of buying a S&W revolver

The 686 is a great revolver--and you can find used ones (or its blued equivalent, the 586) on the EE for pretty good prices. You might also think about something like the classic Model 28 Highway Patrolman, which is built on the heavier "N" frame. Much as I like the N frames, the 686's slightly smaller "L" frame is plenty strong for a steady diet of magnum loads. If you want a slightly smaller frame you could think about the Model 66 in stainless or its blued equivalent the Model 19. They're built on the lighter "K" frame. They're good if you want to shoot mostly .38's and not a steady diet of magnums, especially the lighter weight ones.

I haven't been shooting very long and I already have 6 Smiths... well, 5 if you take into account the fact that one of'em is a gift for my girlfriend!

Go for it.

Looking to add a 686 to the collection.

S&W 610... cylinders modded to accept '10mm Magnum' (almost same length as .44magnum, but .40 instead - Starline sells the brass) :D
You can still shoot .40S&W and 10mm from it. Hot damn, this is what I want.

A 6" S&W 686 "Classic Hunter" was my first handgun. I still own it after 24 years. I don't think you'll have any regrets if went the 686 route...:)

The local gunsmith had two 686s for $500 per revolver a few weeks ago; I was really tempted to pick one up, but I like my 28 too much to sell it. After talking with him for a bit, he told me not to get rid of the 28 for a 686, but they still catch my eye every time I see them.

S&W wheelguns....

I've always wondered whose hand fit the S&W target stocks.

I guess...now I know. ;)

Nope, the real answer is "no one, really".... those big target stocks are just for show.... :p

Nice collection though, Jaybird!

Here's what "fits" my hand in S&W's...
