So we have been thinking of doing a run of m14 bbls, stainless depending on how much work is involved looking at around $250-300 CDN each maybe less if all goes well
What do I need to know?
these would be pretty much same profile as spec as an issued m14.
lay on as much info as possible.
The idea would be to offer a quality product for the norinco m305 without the Springfield price.

I always liked the idea of an adjustable gas system.. I think SEI or someone makes them in the USA.. I like the idea of a an accurate barrel with adjustable gas to tune it...

what chamber..? nato or .308? just to be clear.. I am guessing you mean nato when you say 'as issued'

also, what kind of blanks? button rifled?

I have been wondering why you haven't done this already. Huge market for a reasonably priced - available m14 barrel. I can't give you the info you need, but I look forward to the result.

Truth is, I know just about everything you could know about shotguns, tactical shotguns that it, same for the ar15, glock, 1911 ect as I have been working on them for 20yrs.
have never had the time to spend as much on the m14, but I do have time behind the trigger.
we have secured some good pricing on quality blanks and trying to see if we can take a stab at doing these.
the drawings we have are USGI and the reamers we can use are 762 nato
the one big question is the Norc receiver threads how close are they too Inch patten/mil spec I have no problem doing them to fit the nork, but would rather just make them to the usgi spec .

Any chance at doing some medium profile barrels as well? I think this is a great idea and if the barrels shoot well, there is a large market in Canada.

As a new shooter, I've been surprised the extent to which demand seems to exceed supply in Canada, for so many gun-related items. Perhaps this is only transient given the unusual increase in demand in the US, but it seems like this has been the case over a longer term.

One question.

With one of the concerns from the Norinco owners being headspacing, would it be wise to chamber these on the short side and let the end user / gunsmith finish reaming it?

I know with the AR-15 barrels, folks want plug and play functioning. With the M14, I'd suspect a service chamber would do for most rather than a match chamber.

Thoughts?

im sure we could do that.
as for supply and demand it is always bad in Canada.

that's a good idea, and would work better for us, what say the rest of you?

hat would be good, but like most of our products we are not making one offs, looking at doing production, so unless we had an order of a few hundred or could see a real solid market for it, it may not happen from us

I bet you would get sick of making m14 barrels in 338 fed once The Yankees catch on call it a Alaskan M14 haahaa

Here is my 2 cents.
I am looking at building a heavy barreled m14 hopefully soon ish. I would take a medium barrel instead of the price was good and it was CDN.
I would definitely prefer to have a barrel that was short chambered so that I could set the headspace to my bolt. (by me I mean the gunsmith) A 260 or a 7-08 would be awesome, but not practical if you don't want to do one offs.
However if you didn't chamber them at all it probably wouldn't make a difference what caliber the blank was as far as contouring them. Therefore if you had a few .243,264,284 etc barrels contoured and not chambered that would be cool too, obviously this would depend on your supplier and how much your willing to invest in barrels that might not sell instantly. (I pretty much guarantee they would disappear right away)
Of course they would have to start off with high quality blanks, because if its not going to shoot better than the Chinese crap that gets taken off then what's the point right?

I really really want one in 7-08

Why not do a poll? Or presale to avoid the one offs? I my self would purchase a .243 & .338 federal if you went that route for production, I'm sure I'm not the only one either, I already have 3-7.62's

Cheers

That's along my way of thinking why make a another 308
But a 338 fed for moose and bear hunting or a 260 or 243 for competition aswell as hunting deer and coyotes
I would think if you made a 338 fed would be a hot seller both in Canada and especially state-side wear bigger is better
No one is making the 338 fed or a 260 for m14 it a custom barrel job right now
Wy just look at are small local market wen thar is a huge market next door too
I am working on having a 338 fed made for one of my m14 and a 13" for a NR savage boult action short barrel rifle (bush and back up rifle) from Herron arms

Everytime you do this, you'll have buyers here.
C'mon, we all picked the M305 because we don't all have deep pockets to get a Sprinfield Armory.
It goes without saying that we all support this.

Cheap shooting without it being cheap quality.

I'll give you my 2 cents. A decent criterian NM barrel costs a bit over $300 and are fairly available. Furthermore there are still other alternatives in the price range, and Kreiger barrels can be obtained if one really wants to spend the money on the most accurate barrel. I think if your going to compete, you should set yourself apart from your competition. A lot of people have expressed interested in other calibers. Consider making a 7mm match barrel for the target shooters, and a 338 Federal for the hunters. This will get you some attention, and hopefully some good business.

The technical side of making a m14 barrel is not so easy apparently.
A joint venture between myself, mystic precision and McGowan Rifle Barrels of the U.S. Died on the machines as they just couldn't get it figured for the target $$
What info do you require, I've been down this road and have all the info one could ask for.
And please.... Whatever you make in 7.62 x51/.308, please make it the correct M14 chamber, M852.
Hit me up if you have questions, be happy to help ya
And I concurr, a .338 federal 19" or 20" barrel would be a show stopper , big time
I know at least 5 guys right now that would happily pay 300 or more for a quality .338F m14 barrel
