Thinking of doign a run of M1a / M14/ m305 barrels what do i need to know

So we have been thinking of doing a run of m14 bbls, stainless depending on how much work is involved looking at around $250-300 CDN each maybe less if all goes well
What do I need to know?
these would be pretty much same profile as spec as an issued m14.
lay on as much info as possible.
The idea would be to offer a quality product for the norinco m305 without the Springfield price.

You are the answer to my prayers I am doing a build and the only thing left of my M305 will be the reciever when I am done but I have been looking for a milspec stainless steel barrel. I will take one asap!

I'll give you my 2 cents. A decent criterian NM barrel costs a bit over $300 and are fairly available. Furthermore there are still other alternatives in the price range, and Kreiger barrels can be obtained if one really wants to spend the money on the most accurate barrel. I think if your going to compete, you should set yourself apart from your competition. A lot of people have expressed interested in other calibers. Consider making a 7mm match barrel for the target shooters, and a 338 Federal for the hunters. This will get you some attention, and hopefully some good business.

So where do you find the NM barrels in Canada?

The technical side of making a m14 barrel is not so easy apparently.
A joint venture between myself, mystic precision and McGowan Rifle Barrels of the U.S. Died on the machines as they just couldn't get it figured for the target $$
What info do you require, I've been down this road and have all the info one could ask for.
And please.... Whatever you make in 7.62 x51/.308, please make it the correct M14 chamber, M852.
Hit me up if you have questions, be happy to help ya
And I concurr, a .338 federal 19" or 20" barrel would be a show stopper , big time
I know at least 5 guys right now that would happily pay 300 or more for a quality .338F m14 barrel
Tom will be in touch when I get closer to the project.
thanks

Either way you spin em, I think a short chamber is key, if someone is already going through the process of installing a new higher quality barrel, they will also want to set their own headspace and not just hope for a tight chamber.

I'm in for a 308

Are you still moving forward on this??

I am sure there are a ton of lessons learned from your AR barrel experience that can be applied to M-14 barrels, so you can avoid some pitfalls and mistakes.

I am interested to hear your progress to date.

Why 7.62 & not .308? I thought the reason most guys upgraded their barrels besides accuracy, was so they could shoot commercial .308 as well as 7.62 surp rounds? 180gr .308 will take down a moose but my understanding is the chamber end of the barrel on an M305 won't take the pressure.
