Thinking of getting a CSA VZ58 ... I have questions ...

Tikka...Agreed. Where I hunt is fairly dense forest, crisscrossed with animal trails.
This year I have a camo ground blind and two bait stations with lanes at about 50 metres.

It's on my land...but a 10 minute canoe paddle and 20 min hike, so I love the compact VZ.
I use iron sights, and folding wire stock. Very light.

I bought my VZ58 from Frontier during the summer, they had stock on them last week.

They seem to be hard to findable and many vendors are sold out. Are they no longer in production?

What kind of accuracy can be expected in MOA?
I can coax 2" at 100yards out of mine with surplus ammo, bagged on the bench of course.

Why do all the collapsible stocks have an angle to them? Can you get adapters so they are straight? And why do you see so few Magpul stocks on these? (I didn't see too many flipping through the photo thread)
As others have stated, the angle is to ensure a proper sight picture, and I'm currently in the market for a nice Magpul stock for mine, as well as about $450 worth of other add-ons...

Do all VZ58s have chrome lined barrels? If not, how can you tell which ones do and don't?
Mine isn't chrome lined, doesn't really bother me, it's next to nothing to clean for corrosive ammo. As far as how to tell, no idea, other than what the retailer tells me.

Compared to the other cheap plinkers out there like the M305, how do they rate in terms of quality?
Compared to any Norinco product the fit/finish is far superior, I'm quite pleased with mine.

I love mine. I've started reloading PPU brass and don't use corrosive ammo (even with the chrome barrel). Personally I like the 7.62 round a lot more than the .223 Seems quieter too.

The VZ long barrel is an extremely reliable rifle. Expensive, but man it just works. I cleaned it for the first time the other day after my ~2000th round. Try that with an AR :)

2MOA eh? I my XCR wasn't much better than that.

The Magpul stocks that guys are throwing on the VZs, are they modified or stock? Commercial spec buffer tube or military spec tube?

I put the fab defense buttstock on mine, but it's designed for both commercial and mil spec tubes. I do believe the one that comes with the VZ is commercial spec however.

No, they're still being produced

My 5.56 Vz 58 gets anywhere from 2.5MOA with American Eagle .55g BTFMJ to 5" with Chinese surplus 5.56. My old CZ 858 got 4" across the board no mater what you fed it. I will assume the 7.62x39 CSA Vz 58 will be probably the same.

If they were straight you wouldn't be able to use the stock iron sights. Yes you can. I don't know.

Chrome lined barrel models are a recent thing. There aren't very many out there but you can find them. The most noticeable difference is the chrome ring at the muzzle of the barrel showing that it is indeed chrome lined. No ring, its not chrome lined. If the gun has a muzzle break of any kind, you may need to remove it to get a better look at the muzzle,

The CSA Vz 58's had an over gassed issue in 2012 and 2013 models. The issue has since been fixed and anyone with a 2012 - 2013 model is covered by CSA's excellent 5 year warranty service and is pretty much no questions asked. The issue of the two types of gremlins the CZ 858 was famous for has been dealt with on CSA models. I have both a CSA Vz 58 in 5.56 and an M305. I'd have a very hard time trying to sell either one of them.

The ones I have for the vz absolutely 100% will not fit in my sks, the lips on the end are too wide to fit. They have to be hammered down to go into the sks.

I have a 1953 tula, maybe that makes a difference? Maybe the chineee ones have sloppy tolerances who knows. I suppose I should say "on MY sks my vz clips will definitely not fit". Sorry to ruffle panties.
