Thinking of getting a Glock 19x as my first handgun, change my mind?

At this point I'm getting pretty set on the 19x but be good to hear any ideas good bad or ugly?

One 'feature' of the G19X that you should be aware of is a frontstrap that is lower than the G17; the G19X's lower frontstrap means that it doesn't accept G17 magazines that have the Gen5 floorplate.

For full magazine compatability (with your G19X), you might want to replace the Gen5 floorplate on any Gen5 G17 magazines (with a shorter variant of floorplate).

There's a bit of a learning curve to polymer striker fire over steel frame hammer fire. That said get whatever gun you're into and try to get it used.

Glock fan here.

But not of the 19X until they come out with one in a finish shade that doesn't look like the product of a baby's diaper.

I am aware I was under the impression it still accepted gen 4 mags though?

I love my Glock 19X. My favourite handgun right now. I ground down the front strap so it will take all gens of mags.

The unfortunate part is it will run run run, its accurate and its not expensive......oops....maybe that a good thing?

Haha I actually like the colour, am I right in thinking that the Glock 45 is just a black version of the 19x?

Any pictures how the mag well looks with it ground down?

Yes, the Gen5 G17 floorplate is longer. It can, however, be swapped out for a shorter floorplate, and the Gen3/Gen4 magazines already have the shorter floorplate (required by the frame of the G19X).

17/34 or 19 before the 19x. Buy a used one as they usually come with extra mags/holster/sights/etc. Love my 19x now that I have a comp on it. The look of a long grip and a short slide was kind of silly to me. Not being able to put a Magwell on it also sucks. Trigger is my best Glock trigger. Would not recommend to first Glock buyer but if it’s that or no Glock, get it.

Get the 19x. It's what you want, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You'll probably end up buying lots of other styles/makes and you'll never regret your first choice.

Having been in your position almost exactly a year ago, and basically only having experience with Glocks until then, I initially wanted a 19X and ended up deciding on a 17 Gen 5. I was happy with my choice... until I tried literally any other gun after.

After having it for a few months, I was a VERY mediocre shooter with the Glock when I picked up a friend's CZ75 and began to keyhole shots at 10 yards without even trying too hard - and then did it again with another friend's 2011 - and then AGAIN with a Shadow 2. It was a sort of awakening for me that I might not be a good shooter, but the equipment can certainly help

A year later, I'm still new to the game (3-gun and trying out IPSC and IDPA) but love my Tanfoglio Stock II Extreme. I don't regret starting with a Glock, but if I were to start again I'd do it with a Shadow 2 or 75 for a value pick - they shoot amazingly well for the price.

In my humble opinion, the Glock magnifies your mistakes and makes you a better shooter, so have at 'er! My personal suggestion would be to get a 34 as it's unlikely you're ever going to carry it in anything other than a case or belt holster, and the longer slide helps a ton with accuracy. But if your heart's set on the 19X it's a great gun too, and a great first handgun to get! Life's too short to use something you regret buying!

Crap trigger, as in really, really bad compared to just about ANY other striker-fired handgun!! Factor in the extra $250 you will require for an aftermarket trigger to make the pull tolerable. Heavy, mushy, stacks all the way to let-off, and so on. Total junk. The rest of the Glock is OK, but why not start with a 100% winner right out of the box (and even cheaper) with the CZ P10C? Or try the SIG P320, or the FN 509, or the Walther PPQ, or just about any OTHER firearm than the Glock to see what you will be missing. Glocks are way over-priced these days when there are $540 solutions such as the P10C that are good to go right out of the box...

And yes, I own a 19X because no collection of modern handguns would be complete without a Glock. That said, I never shoot the damned thing because of that godforsaken trigger-pull...

That's cuz your a trigger snob Marcus! JK pal! ;-)

My preferred trigger in the Glock is the "-" connector with the NY-1 spring. I find it the most consistent. That said, many may not like that heavy a trigger and would likely prefer the std spring vs NY-1 spring. Thats what you get when you used one for work for so long.

Haha I appreciate the feedback, pretty much all those other guns are in the list, but at this point though I think the 19x has turned into a new shiney goal for me. You know when you talk yourself into something you maybe shouldn't buy right now but part of you is rubbing its hands like Golem, yeah I'm there now I think haha.

Well, I'll give you the ugly. That Canadian nubby barrel. Go with the 17 or 48.

Nothing screams it's coming from an oppressed nation, like a nubbified barrel, IMHO.

Thats my view too. I'd get the 17 MOS. I still can't quite grasp the concept of the 19x. Lots of guys do and really like it though so to each his own.

I run a Beretta APX RDO, but I'm liking this as well.
