I've got my pistol, got my shotgun, now i'd like a revolver.

There's a lot of ###y models out there, can you give me an idea of what to check out (target shooting, no competition)

old style or new, what will be good for my buck?

I've just got back into handguns and wanted to start out with revolvers. After checking out the many many many makes and models I decided on Smith & Wesson. Picked up a 10 shot Model 617 .22LR and a 6 shot Model 686 in .38/.357. Both revolvers have a very similar feel so I can practise with the cheaper .22LR in the 617 and there will be little noticeable change when I pick up the 686.

Go for a .22 S&W I have a 6 shot Model 17 and just love it. You can get some cheap speedloaders off the bay for it as well.

I'm rocking a GP-100 w/ 6" bbl and no full-length underlug. Blued and points like a finger. Got it because it was near new and the seller was asking $500 for it with a pile of goodies. Built like a tank, I highly recommend it

A friend owns a 1956 357 magnum revolver. It is the sweetest firearm I have ever fired, revolver or semi automatic. Other revolvers I have fired are the snub nose 38 (I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn) a couple of different 22 revolvers and even a 44, but I will always lust after that 357!!!

Revolver - Good Choice....

S&W Model 586 .357 Mag 6" with patridge sites.....

A good single action is a fine gun,....the old cowboys thought so & so do I.
come to think of "old",.... so am I.....:runaway:

rugers are tough for the money & are perty too. consider a convertable as you can shoot the .45 ACP cartridges as well as the .45 colt cartridge
or 9mm in the .357 blackhawk. just switch cylinders to your liking.
there are other calibres to consider. what ever you decide you will have fun with it,...I sure do with mine!

Wendell,....that sure is a beauty! thanks for showing it to us.....:dancingbanana:

I'd go for a .357 magnum--you can shoot .38 Specials as well for lower cost and less recoil. I'm partial to S&W's myself...something like a 686 (or 586 like NAA mentioned upthread) would do you well, and you can often find them for good deals on the EE.

I prefer double actions:
S&W 629, 624, M1937, Heavy Duty Pre-Model 23, Colt Model 357, and an Anaconda, Dan Wesson Model 44....

Nothing wrong with a Colt SAA or Ruger Blackhawk or thier many clones thereof...
I suggest a 357, & shooting alot of 38 for starters though.

Some nice guns mentioned/pictured...

I will be first to say don't overlook Taurus Revolvers, esp. Raging Bull line if you're looking for .41mag+ power. I love the look of these guns. IIRC they also double as a sledge hammer. :)

now come to think of it, double actions are fun too....
my little S&W k-frame model 65-5 (.357 magnum)....also shoots .38 special!

also have a fine shooting S&W model 14-4 (sorry no picture) with 6" barrel & full adjustable sights.
it looks alot like my .32 long cartridge gun from Taurus....

sure is going to be a tough decision to make,....double vs single action.
best to have both types.....:dancingbanana:

I like my S&W Model 66-2. .357 as well as .38spl, but better suited to .38spl. The slightly smaller K-frame fits nicely in my hand.

Holy Crap! Those Pics Brought Tears To Eyes!

They're All Beautiful. Thanks For Sharing.

Two More Paychecks And I'm Going Shopping!!!!!!!!

I agree with LUGGER on this topic if you're looking for a larger revolver. I've got a Raging Bull in .44 and it shoots very well. The porting makes it easier to shoot more than a couple rounds and you won't be numb afterwards. Crisp trigger, doesn't feel like a .44 but destroys like one.
