Thinking of getting a revolver....

If I were going to buy a revolver today... I'd get a RUGER Super Redhawk in Stainless. I'd have the barrel cut back to minimum length with the warning text removed from the barrel. I'd change the grips for something nice... wood.

All that could be had for the cost of most other revolvers :)

Thanks for resurrecting this thread...I have an old S&W Highway Patrolman I enjoy very much...original owner was apparently a bush pilot some years back...

I would say a S&W 586 would be just about as good as it gets. I have a 686, but I've noticed my blued guns have smoother actions.

I like this Ruger Blackhawk 45Colt/.45 Auto convertible.

Jaybird, that's a lovely looking brace of pistols. Are these all the same caliber or a mixture? If they are the same then can we consider you as being just a wee tad obbsessed? :D

G37, that's an interesting plan for getting a nice flashbang gun. I'd probably opt for more like leaving it at 6inches since with the really large frame I think it would look more visually balanced and also it would retain more of the muzzle velocity while still letting the bullet exit with enough of the powder still burning for a nice lively muzzle flash. Yes? No? Although shortening it to 4.5 would sure look amazing in a stubby sort of way. Time for some photoshopping? :D

Edited the stock Ruger picture of their 7.5 inch SR to show a short (I'd guess 5.5 to 6 inch) barrel and a snub nose version with what I think would be down to our Canadian minimum.

First the short version...

And what I think would be what a 4.25 inch legal version would look like....

Bought this 629 Classic from a fellow CGN'r as my first revolver. I had shot a 686 once before but decided to go for the "Big Bang"

Hey Wendell: Downsize that pic it's a killer for the mobile devises...and this isn't a picture thread.

i say S&W 686 is a classic in .357, you just can't go wrong with them, especially if you can find the 5 inch 7 shot unfluted model (special limited run for the canadian market)

Get A GP100:

1) Damn sturdy; the tank of revolvers.
2) Double action is versatile
3) .38 and .357 adds versatility too
